Not only was there wonderful sunshine and delicious rain, in due times and perfect measure, but there seemed something more: an air of richness and growth, and a gleam of a beauty beyond that of mortal summers that flicker and pass upon this Middle-earth. Why were the children born or begotten that year unusually fair, strong and golden-haired (which was a rare trait for hobbits)? Why was this year a lush, fruitful, and plentiful year? Were all the lands in Middle-earth experiencing this abundance? Was it because of the contents of Sam's box from Galadriel? Why did Sam take so long to see what was in his box? Or...Was it a gift from the Valar? Or...Had there been a "cloud" that had hung over all of Middle-earth that was finally lifted away by Sauron's destruction?
