It was interesting to read about the Island of Númenor in Unfinished Tales. I had no idea it was shaped like a Star! These are the regions located in the points of the star:
Interesting about Meneltarma:
There was a comment inserted in the above comments about it being untouched by human hands and nothing being built upon Meneltarma during the days of Númenórean grace, until the coming of Sauron! I need to find out what this means!
- Forostar - the Northlands
- Andustar - The Westlands
- Hyarnuster - the Southwestlands
- Hyarrostar - the Southeastlands
- Orrostar - the Eastlands
- Mittalmar - the Inlands (center of the star)
Interesting about Meneltarma:
- The top was flattened and depressed so a great multitude could gather there.
- It was untouched by hands--no building, no raised altar, not pile of undressed stones, no temple of any kind during the days of grace. No tool or weapon had even been carried up there.
- No one but the King could speak and the King spoke only three times during the year:
1) to offer prayer for the coming of the year at the Erukyermë in the beginning of spring,
2) in praise of Eru at the Erulaitalë in midsummer,
3) and thanksgiving to him at the Eruhantalë at the end of autumn. - No bird flew up there except three Eagles called the Witnesses of Manwë, who it was believed were sent by him to keep watch upon the Holy Mountain and all the land.
- At the base of the mountain lay the Noirinan or Valley of the Tombs for the Kings and Queens of Númenor.
