I'm at the Chicago Comic-Con this weekend and saw an awesome Aragorn costume. Just wanted to share.

Is it one of the LOTR movie exhibit outfits that Viggo Mortensen actually wore in the movies? Desi, Sparrow, and I saw the movie exhibit in Indianapolis, IN a few years ago.

I doubt it, as this guy was just wandering around the con. He probably either bought that outfit in a store or made it. There was a booth selling Lord of the Rings action figures for two bucks each! I haven't bought an action figure in years but for that price, I figured why not? I got an Aragorn and a Frodo. They're missing their accessories, so no Anduril or Sting. But they're not in bad shape. Also LOTR-related, I saw a replica of the helm of Sauron from the movies.

The Sauron's Helm replica looks like a genuine artifact from the movie tech personnel. A bit too pricey for me, and I think, while it has dramatic flair, it might be awkward to wear... I never got into Middle-earth replicas, or miniature figures, funny, cause I have bunches of Trophy figures from the Zulu War, three historical replica swords, and a museum quality viking helmet... May have to look into this, some of the lead figures I've seen for LOTR are really well done, see upper left column, and hit the link for "armies," Tankred's Easterlings and army of Khand are great! www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.tabletop-hdr.de/uploads/pics/DSCN4356_01.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.tabletop-hdr.de/en/events/2007/kauzenburg-convention-2007/&usg=__X3GQfWp7t7l05OXG9uqGt19QiHk=&h=600&w=800&sz=77&hl=en&start=16&zoom=1&tbnid=kL-r7nX6TIwDJM:&tbnh=107&tbnw=143&ei=OzBMTrHzBc3XiAKx-sihAQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3DOsgiliath%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1

That was me! Thanks for the compliments! I made or modified most of it. The cloak is from New Zealand from those who made them for the movie, and the boots were actually made by the guy who made them for the movie. I've been working on it since 2003, and compliments like this mean a lot to me. Thanks!

Hi Dustagorn! Did you just happen to register here and see my post? In any case, it was indeed a sweet costume.
Furthering the weird coincidences, my friends Josh and Cersei saw this picture and said they know you. Small world, eh?

I was looking for pictures of the costume and stumbled across it, actually. And yeah, Josh and Cersei are close friends of mine!

Small world! Welcome to Tolkien's Ring, Dustagorn. Very nice job on the Aragorn outfit.
Was Cersei named after the queen in King's Landing from George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series?

It's actually her nickname, and yes, she took it from Game of Thrones.

(NOTE: This used to be the Chicago Comic-Con thread but I'm changing the title to be more general.)
I was recently on vacation in Atlanta and went to a sci-fi/fantasy convention called DragonCon. A friend had invited me (the aforementioned Cersei named after the Song of Ice and Fire character).
This convention was massive and covered all aspects of geek/pop culture, including Tolkien. There was a "Tolkien track" that you could follow that had various panels related to Middle-earth. I didn't make it to many of these but one was a two hour(!) lecture by a professor who'd studied the historical and mythological Norse and Anglo-Saxon influences on Tolkien's work. As a dutiful nerd and former English major, I actually stayed for the whole thing. Very interesting stuff. I have a recommended reading list from the guy. I'll have to post that one of these days.
There was also a panel hosted by TheOneRing.net about the Hobbit movie but this one was filled up and I didn't get to see it. I did however stop by TORN's table at the con and answered some trivia questions. I got almost all of them right and won a little plastic Frodo figurine.
I also saw a lot of people in Tolkien-themed costumes. I saw a Frodo, Merry, Pippin, Gandalf the Grey and the White, Legolas, Aragorn, Arwen, and an Elf who was possibly supposed to be Figwit/Lindir. DragonCon is a very costume-centered event and some of the outfits at this thing were absolutely amazing.
Once I get the pictures transferred to an image-hosting site, I can post some of them here. Or if any of you guys want to be Facebook friends, we could go that route since I have them on my page already.

Here are the Middle-earth characters I saw at DragonCon. Sorry for the delay. Frodo Aragorn (or possibly just a Ranger) Orc warrior These two I'm not sure about. The guy seems to have the White Tree of Gondor on his gauntlets so I'm guessing a Ranger of Ithilien or a new interpretation of Boromir or Faramir. The girl seems to be an Elf warrior (I could of course be totally off and these guys are from Warcraft or something). Arwen and friend Gandalf the White Pippin Legolas An Elf, possibly Lindir (or Figwit as he's called by the movie fans). No clue what the lady is supposed to be. Merry

They did very nice jobs on their outfits and makeup. Good to see other Tolkien fans enjoying themselves.
