Pretty good and much of the same comedy mixed in with all the exciting action. Good to see our old fvorites, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker. Andy Serkis is the Big Bad Guy, the Supreme Leader, Snokes. Not happy about the one big shocking twist in the plot...kind of like Gandalf on the Bridge of Kazad-dum against the Balrog. Didn't see that coming at all. SOB! Of course, it is a trilogy, so more movies coming in the next couple of years.

Saw it yesterday afternoon with my kids. It's a tradition we've kept since the re-release of the original trilogy and Episodes 1-3. Took them out of school for "an appointment" each time. (They were great students and deserved it. I didn't mind the "Coolest Mom Ever" title, either.)
I think Abrams did a great job resurrecting the franchise. I'm getting old though. They could have shortened the action scenes... It was a bit predictable, also. Some great humor and I loved the little bespectacled character. She reminded me of Hetty on NCIS Los Angeles. Yeah, the scene you are talking about...I had a feeling that was going to happen. Shocked me even so, though.
My son made me watch the trailers a month or so ago and we discussed the rumors surrounding Luke. I gave him my own theory which I came up with after watching the trailers. It happened to be just about dead on. Hence my feelings of predictability, I guess.

Yes, Hetty on NCIS! My thoughts exactly! Loved her glasses and magnification and then when she removed them. Yes, we've been Star Wars Fans since 3 came out way back when and have seen every one each time they came to the theater. I just couldn't picture Ren as the son of Han and Leai. He just didn't look (to me anyway) like what their offspring should look like--his nose was too big. I'm trying to figure out if Rae is someone's daughter (either twin of Ren or Luke's child).

I enjoyed the movie a lot. I just wish it had a more original plot. At times, it felt like a retread of the first Star Wars movie, A New Hope. It hit so many of the same story beats: hero from a desert world, droid with vital information, planet-destroying weapon, black masked villain, etc. It felt like the same damn movie at times. I realize that they wanted it to feel like classic Star Wars but a little more originality would have been nice.
The best parts for me were the new characters. Rey is a very likable and strong heroine, BB8 is adorable, and I loved getting to see a Stormtrooper's perspective through Finn. Kylo Ren was an interesting mix of sinister villain and petulant child.
I totally saw the plot twist you're referring to coming. I had a theory about that and Kylo Ren's identity before the movie even came out. My heart was still pounding during that scene though since it was such a huge moment and I was curious if they would actually go through with it. The one theory I seem to be wrong on is Rey's identity. But we don't have her full story yet so I guess we'll see.

Desi says she heard Rae might be the Granddaughter of Obi Wan who's daughter was a love interest of Luke Skywalker!
