We finally broke down and got ourselves a new little heeler puppy. She is a red heeler and was born on April 5th which is Storm's birthday, too! What a coincidence. I think I should call her TWIZZLE! LOL!

She's soooo cute! Makes me want to get...no never mind. I have 3 dogs already, all over 80lbs each!
And Twizzle is a perfect name. I can see in that first picture that she's looking to get into some mischief already!

3 Big doggies! What breed(s) are they? Twizzle is a red heeler but she is not AKC registered which is fine because we don't plan to breed her at all. We had a blue heeler, CJ, but had to put her to rest the beginning of 2012. So it has been 4 years since we had a dog.
We were also considering a yellow lab, but the gal who had them (she had a litter of 11 yellow pups and a litter of 10 black pups within days of each other) but we knew we were on the list to get a yellow female but the gal never communicated with us about how many were male or female and when we could come see them. So we gave up on that. Another friend who knew this gal was the one who gave us any info at all. So my son's friends had these heelers and we had all the grandkids come and pick her out.
We have had 2 yellow labs while Desi and her brother and sister grew up and then CJ the blue heeler. They were all great dogs.

Our oldest at almost 11yrs old is a Shepherd/Lab mix at 82lbs. Then comes our 90+lb German shepherd. He's my 7yr old baby. Our newest is half English Mastiff. Her Mom was mostly Bullmastiff with alittle Boxer thrown in. She's 9 months old and 80lbs. Vet says she'll top out a bit/well over 100lbs when she's fully mature. When she's 5 years old, we'll get another dog and start going smaller.

Congrats on your new puppy, Stormy! Yeah, Fan is right, a certain air of the "mischievous Twizzle" is quite apparent in her expression.
Fan -- your doggies remind me of Farmer Maggot and his trio. I shall approach your mushroom beds and henhouse with extreme caution...

Yeah, you just might get licked to death! I like that they are imposing, but, I would not tolerate a vicious dog.

Twizzle's ears are now up! Maybe I should have named her Foxy Lady!

Yes, she does! Once she grows into her ears, they will be more in proportion to her head.

Well, at 5 months old, here is Twizzle and her ears still look pretty huge!

She still has that fennec fox look about her, but she is growing into her ears. Nice looking dog!

When we went up for the wedding over Labor Day weekend, I was walking her and another man and his dog were also out walking. He asked what she was because he thought I did have a fox. I think the Foxdale Society should get a red healer next dog they get!
Twizzle had one puppy 101 class so far and there has been a huge improvement already. We were taught "Leave It" like Fan suggested one night while we were in the game together. Twiz would chase my broom and grab it and drag it away from me and get into the dirt piles when I tried cleaning the house. When we got back from the lesson, I tried "Leave It" while sweeping and she never touched the broom but she did watch me the entire time cleaning. Then I tried "Leave It" when she was digging in the flower bed and it worked there, too. When she grabs my pants leg, she is still not as quick to obey when I say "Leave It" but she does stop but is tempted to do it again so we are still working on it.
"Off" instead of "Down" is another request we learned. "Down" is for "Lay Down". She is still working on completely doing this one. She knows it but the temptation to put her paws on the table while we are eating is pretty tough to overcome!

Wow! Some big changes in Twizzle's appearance -- looks like a fun dog, at a good age now for long romps in the field! Never did get my little brothers to "heel," "get down," or "don't steal food from others' plates…" Dogs are better than siblings when it comes to training.
