Young Aragorn would be a great topic! I would like to see that. Yes, bring Sir Ian McClellan back as Gandalf! Back story of Aragorn kind of reminds me of the new Solo movie coming out, too! Christopher is now 93 yrs. old! He says he thought his last book was going to be his last one. But this one sounds very interesting. Gotta dig out my Silmarillion and review it.

Hmmm, lots of money for this project, hope it works out! Should be lots or room in the Second Age for all sorts of good tales...

I'll have to order HBO again when the Thrones prequel is released. Turned it off at the end of the original. Glad it is in production already!
I am surprised that LOTR prequel hasn't started production yet. Too bad they can't use The Sil and Lost Tales except for the stuff mentioned in The Hobbit and LOTR. Probably more difficult to write that way.

I think I remember reading that they can't use anything from the First Age, so that part of Sil and the rest are off limits. Tom Shippey is working on it, and if I remember rightly, he said that they have to stay within the canon but there is room for interpretation.

I was on IMDB for another reason... just looking something up... waiting my time a bit... but look what got my attention. It's got a trailer, my prrreciousssss.... www.imdb.com/title/tt7631058/
That trailer is too short, of course, as usual. I had heard about Amazon's take before, though I wasn't following it at all. It seems they're taking it serious, as worthy successor of the movies. I'm quite curious how this young cast will be able to step into the shoes of characters like... Galadriel and Elrond... I should not think too much about Cate Blanchett or Hugo Weaving if I start looking at this series.

I posted on the movie thread, I think, a longer version with another Fan's interpretation of the clip. Many people are not sure how they will like it.

Movies thread seems indeed the appropriate place for this. I admit I didn't venture into that region.
Much depends on the writers and director, and how they adapt the material. I liked the first seasons of Game of Thrones, when the material was based more on the books. The last seasons I liked less, because they felt too hasty... If I may use Treebeards wording. I really hope the amazon writers will not make that mistake.
The new generation of actors will do their best, I'm sure. I don't know them, but they surely deserve their chance. It's only that the old movies are so fixed in our memories. It will be hard to not compare them. Peter Jackson and co have put the standard very high. (Even in the famed movie trilogy there were some things that could have been better, but we have forgiven them by now, right? )

Yes, wait and see is how I feel. Give them a chance and hope for the best.
Even PJ changed some things to all of our surprise, but he did a pretty good job in the long run.
