I really liked this calendar! Smaug looked really fierce on the frontpiece. I liked the March picture with the Trolls finding Bilbo and holding him up by the feet. I also enjoyed seeing the picture of Bilbo peeping his head above the trees in Mirkwood since I have painted a picture of the same thing in the past!. All in all, a very spledid Hobbit calendar!
Thank you for displaying this calendar on your site.

Hi Stormrider -
Am glad you liked the BB calendar - especially as it took several months for your request to come up in the queue.
Guess who wrote to me about Tolkien calendars? None other than John Howe. John found a calendar list on the Tolkien Collector website (that Jeremy compiled from my website) and had questions about calendars that he had never seen before. So Jeremy put him in contact with me. I promised to send photos of the ones of interest to him if he woud provide a list.
Have now heard from John Howe, Ted Nasmith, Tim Kirk, and Henning Janssen. All of them have been very friendly and supportive of my efforts. Too cool!

How interesting that the artists have contacted you! Your calendar collection is becoming well known! What an honor to be in contact with John Howe, Ted Nasmith, Tim Kirk, and Henning Janssen. Hmmm...I wonder what calendars John Howe is interested in!
I know I have seen many calendars on your site with artists that I have not heard of and that is why I suggested posting the inside months on your site. I can hardly wait to see all the calendars appear in the calendar of the month section! I know it will take years, but it is so interesting to see all the art inside each one.

I hope that my post was not perceived as boasting! He is my favorite Tolkien calendar illustrator, and I was simply so thrilled with his email that I had to share it with someone! I am, quite frankly, in awe of his abilities.
But I must tell you what is even better than this. It is the friends (if only virtual) that I have made in my quest. Tolkien people are the best. As an example, I received a package at work the other day. In it were the 1996, 1997, and 1998 Czech Tolkien Society calendars. A friend over there (whom I met through the Beyond Bree newsletter) is a member, found out which member had their old issues, and simply sent them to me with his best wishes. These were also the last three that they had "tucked away". How fortunate am I to be the recipient of his consideration and generosity?
I can tell you where I got every calendar from and for such as these Czech TS gifts, they always bring a smile to my face when I think of that person.
So, I try my best to "pay it forward", to return the support that I have received from others and help new collectors with advice on eBay, networking, etc even if it works against me (and it has!) I have had the pleasure of their emails/questions, seeing them pick up uncommon or unusual calendars, and sharing their victories. It is quite satisfying.
OK, enough waxing philosophical. Have to check out eBay (just kidding! :-) )
Best to all.

I am glad that you shared your news with us! And I agree that Tolkien people are the best people!
I have met many wonderful people from being part of this forum and venturing out into the world to meet some of them myself at the Tolkien conference in 2004 at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the LOTR movie prop exhibit in Indianapolis, Indiana. I treasure those get togethers! And I know others have met at other gatherings and events.
John Howe and Alan Lee are my favorite Tolkien Artists, too. I have also grown to love the Hildebrandt Brothers, Ted Nasmith, and many others I never knew about.
All the contacts that you have made through your search for Calendars should be very special to you and I am glad that your friends along the way help you out!

From Parmastahir, 10/06/06 "ANDORINHA: Did you find the poster that you were thinking of? The reason I ask is that I was contacted (via my website) by someone who is wondering how to find a copy of the Barbara Remington poster from the mid-60s - the one that made up the triptych covers of the Ballantine paperbacks at that time. Thanks!"
Parmastahir, Sorry to have missed this one!
Nope, my poster is still buried, somewhere. The B. Remington poster/ book art is still my favorite (even though Tolkien did not like it) because it was the cover art on my first copies of LotR. But my poster was probably from the 1970s, more "realistic" in style and showed the fellowship from the back moving down the wilds with Bill the Pony sometime after Rivendell, but before Moria. Mainly done up in greens and yellows. The colours and treatment of armor remind me more of Naismith than Lee, but that's all I remember now...
Oh well, once we get re-settled it should surface.

Tim Kirk's calendar was really different.
The Golden Hall and Gates of Gondor looked enormous! I guess I never pictured them quite that large.
I liked Bilbo's birthday party. The Hobbits looked really cute!

Anyone know if Tolkien's Ring will publish a 2007 calendar (through Cafe Press as this year or other publisher)? I thought that I read somewhere in one of these threads that there were some plans to do so. But I have not found that thread again nor seen any confirmation that this will happen. Thanks!
Posted some new calendars on my website. You can find them easily in the "What's New on the Site?" section. I turned the listing into a link, so you may view the new ones without having to search through the chronological listings.
Happy Holidays to all!

We are trying to put together the 2007 Calendar at Cafepress but are having some trouble getting the pictures to "fit" properly. Some of the resolutions are not very high making the images blurry as well. With the holidays right now, we haven't had time to really concentrate on finalizing anything. Hopefully, in January we can start working on it again. Hopefully, all the images won't be "red tagged" by Cafepress as copyright since we would be using the Valar names. We will see what happens.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! And many thanks for your visits and support in 2006. I have reformatted my Tolkien calendar website in an attempt to make it much less cluttered and easier to use. In addition, there are many new additions (2007 calendars and several new discoveries) and a new Calendar of the Month featured for January. Hope you all enjoy (and use) it!
