Just "found" the TR boards. Seems this forum is the right place for my particular Tolkien passion: the calendars. You can view my catalog/collection at: www.angelfire.com/tn3/tolkiencalendarsI have been able to find 176 different Tolkien calendars (not including the PJ movie-related issues) and have seven more to get and add to the site - including last year's TR issue (which is now a 2006??) If you have or know of any calendars that are not listed there, please let me know! Thank you for looking in. Parmastahir (parma=book, asta=month, hir=to find, therefore book of months finder or "calendar collector")

You have an excellent collection of Tolkien calendars. The one here at Tolkien's Ring is a special one because members here submitted pictures of them selves and then other members turned those pictures into Lord of the Ring type characters hanging out in the Prancing Pony! You may want to check out this calendar too...It says 2005, but is a 2006... www.cafepress.com/tolkien_entmoot.5162945 As far as ordering you should be able to just click on the add to cart button, that should take you to your cart and then you click the proceed to check out button. If you enjoy collecting calendars then you might like to print out this one, it is a Shire calendar!

Parmastahir:
The 2006 Tolkien's Ring calandar was going to be one of all the Valar and Maiar from The Silmarillion but the members never finished enough art to fill one completely.
Therefore, we never changed the artwork on the old one and the cover still says 2005 while CafePress who hosts the store automatically changed over to the 2006 dates.
Another reason we have not changed the calendar or any other art in the store is because of the copyright problems we have been encountering. It seems that we cannot even use the name "Tolkien" anymore without infringing on the Tolkien Estate's rights. Also any character or city names from Tolkien's works are also taboo. We have more or less abandonded any attempts at upkeeping the stores. We should actually just close them.

Thank you Desi for the tip on the Entmoot calendar. I'll try to pick one up.
Hi Stormrider. I called the toll-free number for CafePress and spoke to one of their sales associates. The 2006 calendar does not "show" in their system and he suggested that I get back in touch with you. If I can't get one through CafePress, is there ANY chance that I could get one (a 2005 - used or not) from you? I would dearly love to add one to my collection (for obvious reasons). I understand about the Tolkien estate and their jealous guarding of their copyrights. The Italian TS went through the same thing some years ago and had to recall their 2002 calendar (which I nevertheless was able to find a copy of through a contact in Italy) even though most had been recalled by the printer. Hoping that you can assist me in some way! I loved the images which were still available through the CafePress link. So please don't close them just yet! Or perhaps a TR member picked one (or two) up and is willing to part with one??? Thanks much to anyone that can help me (and I need plenty of it!!!)
Away from the Green Hill Country,

Hi again, Desi -
Is the Shire calendar above considered "free ware", that is, useable by anyone? I would like to add it to my website where I have another "virtual" calendar (e-calendar for lack of a better term). But I don't wish to violate anyone's rights to it. If I may (to your knowledge) add it to my website, I would like to know more about it, when it was created, by whom, etc etc. Thanks for making me aware of it and any background you may have on it.
And I was able to pick up one of the Entmoot calendars. Thanks again! As soon as I get it, will add it to my website.
Best regards from the Green Hill Country,
Parmastahir

Go ahead and use the Shire Calendar, it was just something I made up, the art work and all. We have a thread here that someone was using to compare current days to the Shire calendar. It was brought up that the Shire calendar can be used every year, so I made one up.
If you were able to the Entmoot calendar you should be able to get the one at Tolkien's Ring...I'll have to look into it...I never did get one so I don't have one to give you.

Parmastahir:
Believe it or not, I never ordered a 2005 calendar for myself. I always thought I would, but never got around to it. Once the year is over, CafePress just changes the calendar even if the pictures are the ones from the previous year.
I am not sure if Majah actually began to create the 2006 calendar in the shop or not. I will have to go into the administration area and take a look around.

Parmastahir I went into the CafePress Shop administration area and looked to see what was "red flagged" as copyright. The cover of the 2005 Hobbit calendar was "red" but none of our own members' artwork was! So I made a new generic calendar cover...no where near as nice as Majah made for the original Hobbit calendar, but I think it will pass. It is NOT a 2005 calendar now since this is now 2006 so that is what you will get if you order it. Here is the link: www.cafepress.com/tolkiensring.14685107I am in the process of digging up all the member's artwork on the Favorite Valar and Maiar Contest which was going to be the 2006 calendar and I will try and get something created and make it another 2006 calendar. I don't know how CafePress will feel about such words as "Valar" "Aulë" "Yavanna", etc. but I will try to get something together. If those words are considered copyrighted, then we will be out of luck.

I have found 10 images for the Valar calendar so we are short 2. I know I had some other ideas for Valar/Maiar that I had never gotten around to doing.
In the next two months, I know I will be very busy and won't have time to finish those other ideas. I will try to work on them before 2007 arrives so that we can get this long overdue calendar in the works by then.

Where do I start? First of all, THANKS to Desi for his response on the Shire Calendar. I will give full credit when I get around (probably this weekend) to updating my calendar website. Re the Cafe Press order, I was trying to order the 2005 TR Hobbit Study Group calendar, not the Pony calendar. To Stormider: THANKS for the quick response on the 2006 calendar. I did (just before jumping onto the boards here) order it. So that one will also appear on my website soon. In ordering, I took advantage of an "email a friend and they get $5 off their first Cafe Press order" offer. So I expect a couple of fellow collectors will order the 2006 Hobbit and the Entmoot calendars soon. If this helps support TR, great! If ANYONE ordered the 2005 calendar and is willing to part with it, please let me know here or drop me a line via my website: www.angelfire.com/tn3/tolkiencalendarsMuch appreciation from the Green Hill Country, Parmastahir

After I posted on the pony calendar I realized it was the hobbit study one you wanted. I'm glad that Stormrider was able to fix the problem and you were able to order it!

Parmastahir
The 2006 TR Member Art Calendar that you just ordered is the same as the 2005 Hobbit Study calendar. I just switched the cover because CafePress "red" flagged it and put the same pictures on the 2005 calendar on the 2006.

Updated my Tolkien calendar website today. Added several calendars over the last week or so which brings the total number of Tolkien (including a few fantasy art calendars with Tolkien illustrations) calendars to 182. When the 2006 TR and Entmoot calendars arrive, that will make 184! Also added a "Calendar of the Month" feature today. Please visit and let me know what you think about it. Thanks all for stopping in and any replies you may post here. www.angelfire.com/tn3/tolkiencalendars

Very good collection...So how many more are out there that you know of that you still need to get? I like how you are collecting the ones not related to the films, it is nice to see interest that started before the movies were made!
