Hi Stormrider!
This is favorite calendar (aren't they all??) because of the April illo. I LOVE any of the Ents, and this one has about 14 in it. Considering that I have over 200 different calendars, that there are therefore over 2,400 different illustrations, and that I have not found more than 15 Ent illustrations among them, they are very rare indeed.
Things have been very quiet around here indeed. Am glad to know that you're not hibernating!
Happy New Year to you!
Away from The Green Hill Country,
Parm

I am always amazed at the talents of our dear professor. Not only did he describe his realms in Middle Earth so well we can picture them in our own minds, he has even painted them beautifully, too.

I liked this calendar. There are some very nice drawings/paintings included in this calendar and it covered many different subjects and tales by JRRTolkien.
It gave me a chance to test out mí español, tambien!

Ah yes, "fantastic" imagery for sure! Very different interpretations from the "realism" of most Tolkien art I've seen, but I like Garland's vision of an alternative Middle-earth. Hmmm, wonder if a "cubist" "fully abstract" vision might also be effective? Certainly "impressionistic" styles would work well, especially for Middle-earth landscapes...
Ah, the November image, Gandalf sitting in a mountain valley, is a "take-off" on the old German (Swiss?) painted postcard of the "Mountain Spirit," a postcard JRRT picked up during his hikes through the Alps (I believe) when he was a young student.
Thanks, Parmastahir! Another winner!

I've always liked Roger Garland's use of vibrant colors in his art. His paintings stand out and really catch the eye. He always had a unique way of looking at Middle-earth.

Hullo, Parmastahir! Oooo! This is indeed a SUPER calendar, I think it has suddenly become my favorite -- even went to Amazon com to pre-order a copy! Found this article/ interview with a very long URL, sorry don't know how to post this properly: www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.tolkienlibrary.com/news/img/Cor.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.tolkienlibrary.com/&usg=__ -xgkLXKq-YZoB_6-oXMtvhLkVkE=&h=177&w=113&sz=20&hl=en&start=47 &itbs=1&tbnid=BruPR8Xx9_K6_M:&tbnh=101 &tbnw=64&prev=/images%3Fq%3DCor %2BBlok%26start%3D40%26hl%3Den% 26sa%3DN%26gbv%3D2%26ndsp%3D20%26tbs%3Disch:1 "Interview with Cor Blok about the Tolkien Calendar 2011 (09.03.10) - comments (0) Ever since I was a child, carrying around the Dutch paperbacks in my backpack, I was confronted with the art by Cor Blok. His illustrations have a very unique style and it fascinated me to see how an illustrator could tell a passage from Tolkien's books with minimalistic means and leave space for my own imagination. After seeing the art of Pauline Baynes, Ted Nasmith, Alan Lee and John Howe I knew there were many unique but splendid ways to illustrate the books. Either you decide to make the landscape the major character or you bring in all the details Tolkien did describe so well - or choose the opposite and decide to illustrate the books with minimalistic means." A long interview follows. Thanks, Parmastahir!
