i found this on the archive board and thought it would be a nice addition here. this is from Fangorn who will be moderating the Poetry Board
A poem starts with a single thought, sentance or rhyme. Make your poem now........talk it.......sing it.......say it. How do you start a poem? Just say one sentance about something that matters to you. Then keep talking about it. Sometimes it will rhyme, sometimes not. But the fact the sentence matters is the main thing. Keep it going, keep trying........Don't stop. All of a sudden, your words will take wings.........after that........it is all up hill........ Enjoy Fang

After both the 'Freestyle" June poetry contest, and the art and study contests to follow, we will embark on a structured, and I hope, very educational journey on poetry structure and developement. So save up those questions, sharpen your quill, and dust off the grey matter. We will reach our hands into the heart of poetry, to the height and width and breadth our souls can reach. See you on the boards!

I decided not to wait for the end of the study to do some poetry exploration. I will start a lazy poetry study now, and put a more structured one into place once the study is done. Look for a post on what I consider the most important part of a poem......METER.....comming soon.

Ah....meter! I bet my meter is always off when I write! Just getting the rhyme is a challenge for me!

In my quest to create better poetry I found these two sites that might help everyone out. One is a rhyming dictionary and the other is a thesaurus... www.rhymezone.com/www.m-w.com/Hope these help!

lol! I found that same rhyming dictionary myself and found it very helpful when I could not think of a word to rhyme. I even passed it on to Majah the other day to help her out! I should have thought of posting it here, too. I'm glad that you did that, Desi!
