Please use this thread to suggest Poetry topics, functionality of contest rules, and other topics to ensure the smooth flow of our Poetry Contests. In total, we will have 4 Poetry threads. The "Instruction Board", "Poetry Suggestion" board and "Poetry Lessons"
The 4th will be the thread list of the monthly poems. Please bear with me as threads and topics are re-arranged!

Alright I posted what I like to call a poem for June! So Here I am making a topic suggestion....How about fun and games in ME. Everyone can write about games they imagine the people of Me playing when they are not at war. This might be a good summer topic seeing how summer is about fun in the sun!

I really liked when we were told a specific style of poetry to write. It was great to stretch myself and come outside my comfort zone. Also I got to learn some new things too.
A Topic idea:
Pick an obscure Tolkien character and write about them. Like Grima Wormtongue or even more like Ioreth or Hama.
I might think of more and will edit the post to add them.

Here's one idea I had. How many of you, when you read my June poetry submission, understood the "Grandma" reference? I think, for one Poetry Month, we might also have an explanation thread. We post our poem, but with an adendum. We can explain there, our thoughts on how we thought of the idea for our poem, and explain the references we make in it.
BTW...........Kudos to the first person to explain my 'Grandma' reference!

Isn't Gollum refering to his grandmother? If I remember correctly, she was something like the matriarch of his family and she drove Smeagol away from their home after he found the ring and begun being affected by its evil influence. I think deep in his heart Gollum might have felt loneliness and resentment that no one loved him, that even his own family despised him, and he found comfort only in his ring. Am I close to the right explanation?

Greenleaf:
I am sure you are correct! I remember Gollum had a grandmother and she was the matriarch of his family. His family did shun him after he took the Ring from Deágol and began acting sneaky and strange.

Congrats Greenleaf, you are correct! As you can see, this aspect of our poetry forum, might be a good idea. There are often times when great lines are misunderstood, because references might go unexplained. I think one month, we may try this.
