After our June Poetry Contest, we will be following the art contest as far as topic. That means that the poetry topic for each month the Art Contest runs, will be following the same theme. This is very good for us. From what I understand, there will also be a study done at the same time. All topics will be compatable.
This is a wonderful opportunity for artists, poets, writers and scholars to all board the same ship. Kudos to our TR management for thinking about so wonderful an idea.
More to follow, once I learn more. In the meantime, get your specialty ready. There are sure to be recognition and prizes to come!
And since I am the Poetry mogul for right now, I want to remind you the poetry topic for June is "Any and All" Tolkien related themes. I wanted to start the new poetry era off easy and smooth, with as little pressure as possible. So get your entries in before June 30th. On that date at midnight EST the contest will be closed.
I am still undecided as to whether the vote will be by e-mail or polls, but if you have an opinion on that, this thread is the place to post it.
As always, if you have questions or ideas, I am always available. Just email me at Fangorn@TolkienEntmoot.com

OK Gang, I have not gotten any input yet as to wether you prefer e-mail or polling votes. If there is no opinions posted, guess what? I GET TO PICK!
Also, June is half over, and we still have only two poetry submissions for this month. I know people have been dissapointed in the past because voting and follow-up have been slow. This will no longer be the case for at least the next year, I gaurantee you.
Again, the June Poetry Topic is easy. Any Tolkien Poem, in any mode you like. You can even post a limmerick if you wish. Just get involved. Just TRY. No one will think less of you, if your first attempts are not that great. However, they might if you don't at least try.

The poll seems a good idea and much more direct than email. However, if the entries are (hopefully) more than eight, how are they going to fit into a poll? I mean, isn't there an 8-choice limit in the polls?
As for submitting a poem myself, I would love to do so but it's not so easy to think even of a limmerick that rhymes in a language that's not your own. Or perhaps I just don't get an inspiration. Anyway, I'll give it a try, just for the fun of it, but I can't promise I'll come up with something.

Greenleaf, very good point on the poll....maybe we should just email. I just hope that doesn't make too much work for Fang....Or we can do polls unless there are more than 8 then we email.........But it is Fangorn's thing so I think it should be up to him!
Also, Greenleaf, my understanding is that poems don't have to rhyme. Just put some sentences together!

Well, I said earlier that I found it hard to write a poem. And then something amazing happened. I got an inspiration! I think Fangorn triggered it by urging people to write something. And it's long and rhymes, too. I think it's been years since I last wrote any verses in English (not that I write in my own language). Anyway, it was fun writing it, and I hope some other people will do the same. I'm off to the other thread to post it.

I'm much more up for a poll. If we get more than eight then I'm not so sure.
I do know that Proboards is working on a new version of their boards and that it will include unlimited or greater polling options.
So maybe we could do polls for 8 and under and e-mail for over 9?
Just a thought.

Well.......so far there have not really been any more than 8 poets submitting their poems in the contests. I think a poll would work because of that. If we did have more, we could always link in a poll from Sparklit which does allow for quite a few choices in their polls. I still have a membership with Sparklit and could create the poll and link it in if need be.

Greenleaf, you have a talent for poetry. I cannot say much more until the contest is over, but please hang in there.

Poll idea sound liek the way to go, and if we have moren than 8 we can do a bravenet one....Now will we do 3 polls, one for first, one for second and one for third place?

The three polls seem a good idea, Desi. That's what I was wondering about, with only one poll, how could we vote for the second and third place.

Couldn't we have the one poll and whoever gets the second most votes be the second place winner and the one with the 3rd most votes get 3rd place?
Just a thought. Thus keeping it down to one poll.

I think we could try that, but what if everyone that votes places the same vote- only one poem will get votes and then there is no 2ns or 3rd....Also in the past everyone voting got to pick their favorite 1st, 2nd and 3rd so with 3 polls they can still do that.

This is the last day for Poetry submissions for June. There will be a vote thread with three polls: First place, second and third. Everyone needs to vote in all three polls. The voting will last for one week, until 12 midnight on the 7th of July. The poetry topic for July will be posted soon, to coincide with the Hobbit Study.
