I've already sent an email with my problem, but I guess it doesn't harm to have this problem solved in public too. It should be solved, else it will return year after year after year. But I warn you... it's a long and complicated story.
A long time ago, when Internet was still new for me, I had made myself an MSN account, and joined a board called Tolkien's Ring over there. In those early days, I still profiled myself as the Hobbit Orgulas Bumbleroot of Haysend. My msn passport used the email Orgulas_BoH@hotmail.com .
After a while, I found myself more of an Elf. I changed my screenname to Orgulas Lostlindëion. I tried to change the email of my MSN account as well. On the MSN boards of TR, I had updated my profile with my new yahoo email. But the "sign in" conditions couldn't be changed. I always needed to keep using Orgulas_BoH@hotmail.com . Every time I wanted to go on the MSN boards, I needed to use the hotmail, which I didn't use anymore for anything else, and got email from TR at the new yahoo address.
A New Day came, when TR decided to move to Proboards. I was tired of MSN as well. Some might remember the log in problems that kept dragging for almost a year. So I was quickly to join TR into the new environment. I didn't use my MSN passport anymore... And my hotmail got invalid.
In the same period of the name change, I changed my MSN messenger account. I had been using the hotmail account before. But then I had made a new MSN account, using my current Yahoo email. I only used this account for the messenger purposes. I kept logging into messenger, and by that, today my yahoo account is still valid - even while I'm never on the MSN main site. I have tried yesterday. Logging in happens with my yahoo email address.
Now comes the ironic part of my long tale. I have two MSN accounts. The first one, with the hotmail address, is invalid and unrecoverable. This account is member of MSN TR, and it had its user email on the TR board profile changed to my yahoo address. My second account, which signs in under my yahoo email, isn't a member of TR. I could join any MSN board with it... except TR. For TR has one old member, who has the same email in the board settings... I've tried... And tried to recover the old hotmail. Both failures. Now I've joined TR with my yahoo MSN account, with another temporary email address. At least, I hope I did. My new username is Androga Erindalant.
To make things even more complicate; on the anniversary last year, I had made myself a third MSN account. I've forgotten which fake email I've used. I've forgotten my password. And I'm not sure of the username. I believe it was either Lord Orgulas or Hîr Orgulas. I never made a post with it, as it was only for chatting purposes. Most likely it has become invalid as well.
Now, my questions... What happends if an account on MSN TR is banned? Will it disappear entirely as member? Or will it just be shown as "banned", but still be a part of the member list? And, most important, what happends to the posts made by the banned account?
If the account totally disappears, but the posts remain, I'd like you, to delete the old Orgulas Lostlindëion at MSN TR. And have a search to that other, empty account, to have it deleted as well.

Hi Orgulas...err....Androga Erindalant!
It is going to take a little getting used to calling you another name!
I did receive your email, but I asked Desi to check into this for you since she is a stay at home mom and can have some time to find your old accounts and delete them.
Old accounts at MSN can be deleted while still leaving all the old posts, pictures, etc. There is an option for the Management team to select delete all or keep all. And we would most definately wish to keep all your old posts and pictures!
Meanwhile, be sure to "apply" for your new account at MSN early enough so that we can accept your application before the weekend so you have time to get to the chat!

Quite a tall tale you tell. The whoas of first being a Hobbit and then transforming into an Elf! I search the 435 members at MSN and found two of you...Orgulas Lostlindeion and Orgulas Lostlinde, they have been deleted, but the stuff you have posted has been left untouched by the TR MSN goddesses. I'm not sure where the third one of you is or is the third one your new Androga Erindalant account.... I also have accepted Androga Erindalant as a TR MSN member. You couldn't have made the name easy on us like made it Orgulas Erindalant!

Thanks, both of you! That's a whole lot of mess dealt with lol. This should have solved my yearly problem.
I know it will be hard to get used to my new name. I've doubted a long time if I would go through with this. The balance shifted to the new evolution. It's about the difference of having a site generated name and one developed fully myself. It's my short dragon name. ;D But I'm still the Elf y'all know so well!
Now I have a reason to write yet another additional intro!

Have I told you lately how much I hate MSN? Now it seems my screenname is "not allowed" in the chatroom. They order me to use another nickname. But when I go to my profile to actually change it, the site excuses itself, but, the demanded function of the MSN memberlist isn't available at the moment. It advises to please try again later. Thank you. [/sarcasm]
I've tried yesterday, I've tried today, and I will try tomorrow. But if the "temporary" error isn't solved quickly, (and I experienced before such things can endure for months, if not a full year), I don't know how to get on the chat by not creating yet another multiple account. I hate having this mess, just after having cleaned it.
Is there, by your knowledge, any bad word (of a part of one) in my name, that I'm not aware of? I wonder why MSN had allowed the name to join the board in the first place. It could already have figured it wouldn't be allowed in the chatroom. Curse them, sneaky little MSN devils!

I haven't contacted MSN yet, but I have been messing around at the TR MSN site...I wanted to see if I would get an error message if I used a name like yours so I tried signing up as Androga Hobbit, but it would not accept the space as a nickname so I signed in as Androga_Hobbit and then I went into the chat room and it worked. So maybe there was a glitch when it let you sign up with the space between your two names and now the chatroom is catching the mistake. I also tried to go in and change the nickname but that is down right now and I should try back later.
Now I will contact MSN to see if they can help...

I have one question before I ask MSN for help....did you get far enough to see if the chat room software has been added...you know that part where it asks you to see the smiley face?

I have seen the smiley face and clicked on that link I could see it. Then I saw the chatroom window, which kept being busy making a connection. And then I got a popup which said the username wasn't allowed. With just an OK to click on. When I pressed that, MSN redirected me to the TR homepage on MSN.
So it would only be adding that single _ between the two names? If only I could change my profile, but I'm still getting the message it's not available. That might be a problem with the belgian server of MSN. I'll try to get some help too. And I'll have to try it from a different computer too. I've had it before on MSN that something doesn't work on one computer but does work on a second one...

I am only guessing that if you add the _ between the names it will work....I will now try to contact MSN....
I can always delete this account of yours so that you can try to sign up using the _ between the names to see if that works, but of course that would mean another email. I can't change my profile either so it isn't just the Belgium server.

The email I used now is the one I use for MSN messenger too. It's the only one that isn't doomed to get invalid because I still log in the messenger quite often. The rest of MSN I try to avoid as much as possible for obvious reasons ). So I like to keep this address as member still.
I could see the smiley face when I first entered the chatroom. So I have the right software. I had deleted all my temp internet files and all my cookies between my different attempts on 4 different days, so that couldn't be it either. And in those 4 days I've shut down my computer and restarted it a few times, too.
I know I somehow must get able to reserve my nickname, and once I can do that, my nickname on TR should be changed too. I got further with the passport public profile now. That's where the problem lies. Now it showed already the new layout, and, more important, I could update it.
Yet still I have a problem in reserving a nickname. My profile showed the nickname Orgulas_Lostlindeion. I reserved Androga_Erindalant, checked it's availability (which was good), and accepted. My profile still showed Orgulas_Lostlindeion. I did the whole process again, but Androga_Erindalant no longer was available the second time. So I must have had it reserved, but it didn't show. I reserved the name Androga_Erindalantale, which was still available. Profile kept saying Orgulas_Lostindeion. And when I checked the availability of Androga_Erindalantale was gone. I didn't reserve yet another name anymore.
Now I just need to find out how to switch between the different reserved names, and let it appear as reserved at MSN TR. I'll browse through the MSN help, and if I find nothing I'll contact MSN myself.
If I don't have it solved in two days, then we probably can use the Androga_Hobbit account temporary. And next year hopefully everything is allright.

It sounds like the email address is linked to the first name you signed up with. For some reason MSN is not allowing you to change the identity linked to the email address to Androga...it wants to keep Orgulas.
I hate to say this, but I think you may need to create a new email account somewhere and sign in with it and another version of your new Androga name! Most emails are free, it is just a hassle to have to go and set up more email accounts than you need!

I noticed that you have changed your name here at PROBOARDS from Orgulas to Androga and the switch was smooth. All of your old posts have your new name. See why we moved off MSN to come here?!?!
We should really look into getting another chatroom that we can link to this forum--that would solve all our stupid MSN problems! Does anyone know of any decent FREE chatrooms that are available?
Perhaps our at-home-mom, Desi, can look into this! SuperMom to the rescue!

I have good news. Desi had made an account called Androga_Hobbit, used for testing purposes. She's given me the password, and now I've finally been in the Prancing Pony! ;D I had my first cup of tea in Ages! So I'll use this account for now. I hope I won't forget to log in once in a while.
Yes, MSN still didn't allow me to change the name. While it used to allow me to change between the Hobbit Orgulas and the Elf. All this mess started when they invented that name-reserve businesses. I remember many members got a 1 after their names because of it. It's very fortunate you've changed to Proboards lol. I've always applauded that! ;D
I want to keep my other account, for posting purposes only. I still have a small word list of Quenya that I should leave there. I'm not sure how many, but I believe most words are in it. I had plans to make a full Sindarin vocab too.
On the chatroom... I believe Fangorn used lots of features from Bravenet for TE. I know they offer a chatroom for free. You can always check it out on this link: www.bravenet.com/webtools/chat/index.php

So glad you were able to have a cup of tea in the Pony! We can't wait to chat with you on Sunday....well it will probably be early Monday morning for you....
I have used Fangorn's chatroom and that worked well, so we will have to look into it!
