What are the apparent politic postitions that Rohan shares with the various Powers of Middle-earth? Are these stances on Foreign Affiars wise? Put yourself in the shoes of a first-time reader ... do you trust the Rohirrim at this point?

I think I could spend a lot of time here and I need more time to think about it... but I would like to see this thread developed so I will put in a few thoughts...
The political involvement of the Rohan is seems to be isolationist in nature. Prior to our (USA) entrance into WWI and WWII we were criticized for ignoring the plight of Europeans. Switerland has always tried to remain neutral as well. The Rohan seem to fit the same mold... They were not interested in any "conflicts" that lay outside their boarders... They would help when necessary, but they essentially kept to themselves.

There is an excellent discussion going on right now of the good / evil of the Rohirrim on the SF-Fandom site. As I was reading the thread it reminded me of my lame attempt to talk about Rohan Politics. Check it out and post your thoughts here!

It is so hard to go back and think of how I felt about the Rohirrim when I first read the book cuz now I am a big fan of them! But it seems to me that they are not the only race/culture of ME that tried to keep to themselves. The dwarves were the only ones that really stood up for one another (the Erebor dwraves helped the Moria dwarves). The Mirkwood Elves kept to their own not mingleing much with the Lorien or Rivendell elves. Even the Shire Hobbits didn't have much to do with Bree Hobbits.
Anyway...I remember thinking (once Theoden was ridden of Wormtongue), You better take Gandalf's advise since you messed up in taking Wormtongue's!
