In Book IV, Chapter Six: The Forbidden Pool, Gollum is in danger of being shot by Faramir and his bowmen but Frodo comes to his rescue ... putting his own life in the balance to protect Gollum. This isn't the first time that Frodo has taken up for the gangrel creature but most certainly the most intense and risky time to date. At this point in the reading, do you feel that Gollum truly understands what Frodo has been doing for him? Does this play a role in their relationship that is lacking between Sam and Gollum?
