March is a good month for mining and chipping away at the old mountain halls. Sharpen your pickaxes and put on those miners caps with your candle on them! It is time to write a limmerick about those rock chipping experts, those diggers of diamonds and gems and precious ores.........
the Dwarves!
The contest begins NOW and all entries are due before midnight on March 31. Once submitted, the poem will be considered 'final' and no further modifications should be made. The entries will be judged by member votes after the close of the contest.
If you have any questions, just email me stormrider@owc.net
NOTE: Please reserve this contest thread for the poems alone during the contest period -- out of fairness to all, please don't post comments here about the poems until after the closing date. You can, of course, send praise privately in email or chat.
Get ready...have fun...lots of fun...and GO !!!

Boimli was a Dwarf from Erebor
Who disliked an unadorned door
He flourished pick and awl
And with ithilden he did scrawl
Elvish runes so his door did not bore.

There once was a dwarf named Thorin.
Whose speeches were so long they were bore-in.
Always pompus and severe,
no matter how clear,
That his audience was always left snore-in.

Once there was a curious dwarf named Blore
He knocked on Durin's door
They sat and chat
And then he went on to explore

In Lonely Mountain I found you.
You never had a clue,
that you are the one for me.
You make me smile with glee.
Little piece of gold our love is true!

I am the lucky one married to Dís.
Our life together is a merry blis.
Thráin's daughter, Fíli and Kíli's mother
Oh how I love her,
When she isn't nagging me to do that and this.

There was a Dwarf named Gimli, son of Gloin
And Legolas the elf's heart he did purloin.
They found lasting friendship
And an eternal kinship
Worth more than any gem or gold coin.

Thorin Oakenshield was mighty and strong
More important, he was never wrong!
When he spoke of the map
His dear grandfather made
He called a hobbit's heart to his aid!

dang spelling errors...lol
One day, some dwarves came a knocking
At Bilbo's front door they were stopping
Hoods of all colors
Were hung side by side
While the hobbit's larder opened quite wide!

There are just two days left
So if you are swift
Your quill will be scratchin'
And your lines will be matchin'
With tales of Dwarves on parchment!

The once was a young Dwarf in Moria
The Dwarven Waldorf Astoria
He mined and he pined for the girl left behind
But that's what happens when Mithril means more to ya!
