Zauber and I had the pleasure of seeing Alan Lee yesterday at the Free Library of Philadelphia. Alan is currently doing a tour with slide presentation, discussing his work as both an illustrator and conceptual designer for Lord of the Rings. He had slides of illustrations he had done prior to his involvement with the films, as well as preliminary and more advance sketch work from the films. Also, he had some "behind the scenes" photos, particularly of the Hobbiton location, showing how the set progressed. He had a Q & A session afterward, and then graciously signed books. What really struck me about Alan (although not together new thoughts on him, as I had enjoyed his participation on the Appendices to FotR and TTT) was what a humble, kind person he is. No huge ego, just warmth and a desire to share Middle Earth with others. TORn had some further dates listed for Alan's tour (see below)...if he's going to be in an area near you, try to stop by! 12/6/2004 7:00PM Olsson's Arlington-Courthouse (2111 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA 22201) 12/7/2004 7:00PM Borders (830 N.
