Hello. Sorry to pop in like this so unexpectedly, and only to do a bit of advertising too, but with the slow death of so many Tolkien forums, I want to make some effort to stir up some, what I might best describe as, mutuality. You see, I am from Forumshire The Hobbit Movie Forum. We're a small group of active forum folk. An eclectic type of place it is, where all are welcome. You might come there and advertise this forum. At least one of you will have to join us (however temporarily) to tell the Forumshire folk about Tolkien's Ring though! What cheek I have, you might be saying, to pop here in such an unrespectable manner - and you'd be right! We Forumshire folk are like that... Kind regards, Orwell

Hullo, orwell,
Welcome to Tolkien's Ring.
Yes, I have seen many Tolkien sites, some boasting several thousand members, like T.A.B.A., go completely under. The Middle-earth "booming days" seemingly are over. But, there are quite a number of smallish sites still devoted to discussing the things of Tolkien's Middle-earth in their own small ways -- but not, I think, necessarily "dying," just reduced to a hard-core few that seem to be showing a certain vigourous tenacity? LOL, the few of us writing here are still engaged, still kicking, and have been around for over a decade...
Nonetheless, concerning new contributing members, it does seem "the more the merrier." I keep thinking of the necessary "critical mass" required to produce and sustain a long term program, and your "mutuality initiative" seems admirably suited towards recruiting the strengths of all the "still kicking" communities on the net.
I'll drop by Forumshire, check it out, but I am not a movie-goer, maybe three films a year, LOL, though others here are more cinema-engaged and might find a movie forum a useful addition to their regular internet rounds?
Pleased to meet you, and best wishes for the continued success of your community!

Hello Orwell! Good to see you. Yes, Tolkien discussion has dropped way down these days. It seems the PJ production of LOTR really stirred up much discussion.
Also Barnes & Nobel held classes on LOTR back in 2000+ (Maybe they still are) We started Tolkien's Ring from a B&N class. Everyone enjoyed discussing Tolkien so much we wanted to continue and Tolkien's Ring sprang from that class.

Thanks guys for your kind words. Forumshire has broadened into more than a Hobbit Movie Forum. Some have even said "broadened too far", if not exactly in those words. All are welcome but perhaps not all will warm to our slant on things.
It really is nice to see how long you folk have been going - and how you manage to stay "on topic" is stupendous - though I guess this is a reflection of how prolific and detailed Tolkien was. I know 'll enjoy browsing here regularly, even if, perhaps, I will not post quite as regularly -- the home hearth obviously needs to be stoked, so that it does not fade, and there are few wood cutters with never, it seems, enough time for proper cutting or stoking. Still, I know I'll enjoy my visits here.
