That's my horsey, Storm, not me, Stormrider! She is now 21 years young--April 5, 1995. I've had her since she was 2 years old. My how time flies!

Wow! Didn't realize you got her when she was so young. A great friendship of 19 years and counting! Happy Birthday, Storm!
A beautiful picture that Majah created!

She got horse treats and a bit extra grain and celebrated with our other horses, Toi & Dandy. If I had carrots in the house they would have gotten some too.

Stormy and I were online together last night and talked alittle about Storm and horses in general. Somehow, the conversation evolved to dogs and cats. Stormy said that right now they don't have a dog because of the horses.
If this is true because of the possible difficult relationship between a dog and the horses, I'd like to make a case for a dalmation. They are known for their affinity with horses. That's the major reason they are the firefighter mascot. They ran with the firefighter coach horses back in the olden days. We had one when I was a kid. She was born in New York City. Raised in NJ suburbia. At 6months old, we took a trip to my Grandparents farm in Illinois with her. They boarded 2 quarter horse stallions there. She wasn't afraid of the horses and they weren't afraid of her. They, individually being stallions, ran together with the dog every chance they got for the joy of it, and I mean together, neck and neck, along the fence (field fence, not barb or wooden). The dog on one side, the horse on the other. They nosed each other in the barn and just generally got along. Unfortunately, the horses were gone by the next year when we went. That was the best vacation ever. Cassie, the dog, had a great time and I landed my first boyfriend - but, that's another story.

No,no, no! LOL! We don't have a dog now because she got old and passed away. the barn cat has moved into the house now. She started coming in when Mike's mom came down for the winter to keep her company. She goes in and out of the house. Mostly in this winter--after all she is getting older--about 13 yrs now. She will be out more once the weather gets warmer. I noticed an orange tabby in our barn last night while we were having Storm's birthday party. That one is not our cat!
We had a Blue Heeler named CJ and she was awesome with the horses! She she liked to do her hearding stuff on them and nipped at their heels in the beginning, but she learned she wasn't supposed to do that unless we needed her help getting a stubborn horse into a trailer or something. CJ went with us when we went on trail rides into the woods and we never had to put her on a leash sh just ran or walked along next to the horses. Sometimes she would lead, sometimes run next to us, sometimes behind us. She would never go off into the woods too far chasing anything either. CJ was so awesome, we took her to the car wash and she would walk next to us and into the building and stay right with us. Never had to leash her unless we were taking her to the vet, which she didn't care for...as most dogs don't!
We had a yellow lab before CJ, named Montana and another yellow lab before her named Tawny. They are greaat dogs and go well with horses, too. But CJ was really the best despite her shedding. Labs shed too but not as bad as heelers. So then we ended up having CJ shaved by the dog groomer and she looked even better and she liked being shaved.
The Budweiser horses, their 18-wheeler, and dalmations stayed one night a our friend's farm down the road years ago. The dalmations were nice dogs, too. Neighbors across the street before we moved to our little ranch had dalmations also. I always liked them, too.
We keep thinking of getting another dog and we really like the heeler breed. But we do a lot more camping now and we don't like the idea of the dog hair in the camper nor having to worry about damage to it from a puppy that chews a lot. We don't really like the dog cage either. Every weekend Mike says, I'm going to get a dog, but we don't. Rather miss one around.
By the way, I went to Amazon last night and ordered a boxed set of Misty books by Marguerite Henry. It includes, Misty of Chincoteague, Misty's Twilight, Stormy Misty's Foal, and Sea Star. Misty the Wonder Pony is no longer available--probably a collector's item.

I just saw something on Facebook, too. A horse should have another companion since they are social animals. So if you have a lone horse, they like to have the company of other animals, goats, cows, sheep, dogs. The post on Facebook was accompanied by a little video clip of a dog and horse playing with a ball.
Did Casey lure the first boyfriend over? Would love to hear that story!

I read that heelers are good with horses, too. Glad you got the "Misty" stories. I think the Wonder Pony one is an actual "autobiography", since it was written by the real Misty and a human, (not Henry). Henry's Misty books are a semi-fictional account.
No, Cassie didn't lure him over. My "charms", such as they were (not much) at 12 years old, did. The boyfriend (same age) was the stallions owner's son. First kiss in a stall with one of the stallions as a witness. I should look him up on the Internet and see what he's up to. LOL

Our housecat was an indoor outdoor cat that I decided to keep indoors when she got older. Mom's cat (an indoor cat and our cat's daughter) came to live with us. Our cat had horrible anxiety issues, like licking the fur off of spots and hiding ALL the time. My brother took Mom's cat, but our cat continued to hide, probably because of gson. I made the painful decision to put her back in the coop with our other cats, in a special caged off area. One day, I left the door open, and she ventured out among the 5 other cats in the coop, nuzzled them and was HAPPY! (The cats share half of the coop. The chickens are in the other half.) So, she went outside during the day and put in the coop with the rest at night until she died of OLD age.

My "Misty" boxed set arrived this afternoon. It is in really good condition. Looks like the books have never been read the spines are still tight and un-flexed. Pages are a slight bit tinged or just printed on a beige paper. Looks like an easy read and there are pictures for Carli to enjoy. She and Colten are coming over this Saturday. I wonder if she will sit still long enough for a story. So far she is into easier to read books with lots of colorful pictures and peek-a-boo lift up flaps with surprises underneath.

I wasn't sure about Sea Star and Stormy. Sea Star was also from Chincoteague and that was why I put that one before Stormy. I figured Misty wanted a foal of her own after Sea Star! Then Twilight was the only one remaining!
