This will be interesting. I wonder if it will included speculations on what influenced Minas Tirith, which has always intrigued me.

I’ve read John Garth’s - Tolkien and the Great War. I enjoyed that book and learned a lot. I imagine this book will be no different. I am looking forward to this. Thanks, Andy!

I heard something about this, too. Glad to have this link although there isn't much info in it. Still it would be nice to have it preserved and kept as a museum with many interesting memorabilia in it.

I had heard about this Russian version, but just recently. So far, I've watched the first video link. It is very odd, creepy, and sort of funny. Kind of Grimms Fairy tale-like.
Frodo seems not too threatened by The One Ring while Gandalf explains what it is and how it was found. Frodo peeps thru The Ring with one eye and twirls The Ring around on its chain.
The Hobbits are strange, Goofy-creepy. Funnyish. Tom Bombadil and Goldberry look like giants (or troll sized)
I wish I could understand Russian.
Going to watch second half now.

The makeup seems overly done in this entire production. Painted on eyebrows, red lipstick, beauty marks on the Hobbits Frodo looks like a cross between Henry Gibson from Rohan & Martin's Laugh-in and Mr. Bean. The weird boingy sounds add to the creepiness.
Speaking of Merry's sword, the second part begins with the Barrow Downs! The Barrow wight is really done up! Tom Bombadil does appear to be digging around getting blades to hand out or is he fighting off the wight?
The second half seems rushed, thru Prancing Pony, Weather top, Frodo's recovery. I skimmed thru the Council of Elrond since I couldn't understand it.
Fighting orcs in Moria was like a goofy ballet and the orcs looked like vikings. The Lothlorien elves were weird, they danced and spun around the fellowship ringing bells.
Boromir and Frodo was quick. Then Frodo & Sam ride off on ponies.

This was a very strange adaptation, never seen anything like it even in amateur, backyard productions. I assume this was some sort of State controlled effort, but, what were the Russians thinking?
At least they included Tom Bombadil.

It seems, according to your first descriptive link, that JRRT's works came out in Russian translation much later than the rest of the world. Comments that it may have been suppressed purposely?
Anyway this was a TV adaptation and aired only once. It sounds like Russians were more confused by it and very glad when PJ's movies came out explaining it better!
Your first link sounds like this is typical of Russian theatrical stage productions. I guess that accounts for the excessive make up.
