yes, I know not to eat any without expert knowledge1 They look rather weird. Tois got locked up. I've been getting her slowly thru the festival and constantly getting her locked out today. Then instead of going back in with her, I had to think about getting dinner ready. So I'll be back later.

Some pictures of our pets: This is Chunk. I met this turtle when his/her shell was the size of a 50 cent piece. He was identifiable by the damage to his shell even then. His shell is about 5" long now and he loves catfish food. (the light colored balls) Steve feeds the fish. I feed the turtles. Same food so there really isn't a difference... This is Six. Steve's sixth kid. He tried to give his human children number nicknames. The only one that stuck is "Number One". (Star Trek TNG) So when he got this cat as a kitten, 15 years ago, he gave it another try. Therefore, Six. Here are the originally named Pupper and Spotty. They get along really well, but, she had just come from the pond, so no way she was allowed inside. Pupper is about the size of a large lab, though it doesn't really look like it here. And Spotty is Steve's indoor cat.

This is Bubby, short for Beelzebub. He's my cat. A cat had kittens here, 11 years ago, and 4 of the 5 were black. I "named" the 4 after names of the devil. We kept Bubby and the Tuxedo style cat - Tux (under). He belongs to Pupper. They are great friends.

Love to see all of your fur babies (err and shell baby). It is hard to put your babies to sleep. I've had to do it a few times in my life.

Nice turtle! Cats are always cool, indoor and outdoor varieties! Yes, sorry to hear about Mauser. Pupper looks fun, used to have a dog that would swim with us, when she got tired she'd leave the water and bark at us, ordering us out for a rest.

When we put Mauser down, I made a comment to Steve that we had to put down 6 dogs in the last 15 years. Fortunately, 5 of those 6 were all over 11 years old. The one young dog got hit by my daughter's car in the dark. We inherited the three dogs that lived here, the oldest of those was 7 years old already. And of course, throughout my life there have been others. Cats, too....and guinea pigs.
Yeah Andy, if she was tired, you guys must have been, too. Just too dumb to know, so she told you. One of our dogs here was very verbal. She'd bark at us for no discernable reason, and we'd always ask her if "Timmy fell down a well"* or something. She, also, (oddly) loved fireworks, and was so sorry she couldn't light them herself.
Even though German Shepherds are my favorite breed and I've had 4 in my lifetime and 2 mixes, my favorite dog of all time was a Dalmatian. She got me through puberty. Cried on her shoulder, a lot, and she never told my secrets to anybody, either. She used to play football with the neighborhood kids. Half a dozen or more 7-11 year olds would be on one team and she'd be on the other. When she got the ball, she'd hold it like a cigar in her mouth. She was a great quarterback, dodging all of them. We didn't teach her where her goal was, so after a time, someone would say she got a touchdown. She usually won the game.
Chunk comes close to us, always has. The others are more aloof. He/she is a Western?** Painted Turtle. We, also, have Red-eared Sliders in the pond, Boxed turtles of various types on land, an a few more rarer varieties. Had a snapper or two, also.
*from the old TV show Lassie ** We are in a transitional band between Eastern and Western painted turtles. We had an Eastern Painted Turtle in NJ that the kids found as a hatchling. The others of the clutch were squished on the road. They brought it home, and I fell instantly in love. Researched and found out very few survive to adulthood. Probably spent $500 on an outdoor habitat, pond, etc. And then Leo spent his winters in an aquarium in our room. Gave him to a specialty (Marine science) High School when we left. Taking him out of the wild was probably illegal. And, until I saw him, I was firmly set on having the kids put him in the lake he was headed to. He was so cute, though! Leo was definitely a he. You can tell by the claws and tail. I haven't spent time trying to figure out what sex Chunk is.

I took Pupper "frog hunting" this morning. That's another name for going swimming in the pond. And while she was busy trying to find the frog that jumped in the water, I admired the light purple Asters that are blooming next to the pond. And then I recalled seeing Red Cardinal Flowers the other day. So, I decided to go flower picking. A story first, though. When we moved into that little blue house in NJ, our property had the worst soil imaginable, except for beach sand. It was dead. Very sandy, no earthworms to be found. Seriously. I spent years adding organic matter to build the soil up. I had at times, up to 100 guinea pigs* and I composted their used bedding. In any event, as the kids grew and needed less play space, I grew my ornamental garden in the backyard, and left Steve very little to mow. It was beautiful, if I may say so myself. Then we moved here. Not only did we inherit 3 outdoor dogs, we also, inherited 25 free roaming chickens. Then, shortly after moving in we added a puppy (the one who loved fireworks). We added 2 kittens (one was Six) to the 2 cats we brought and they were all inside/outside cats. And I was down to 1 entirely indoor Guinea Pig. Trying to recreate an ornamental garden would have necessitated enclosing it to bar our domestic animals or having it entirely in pots. We did have fenced a vegetable garden. My mother was very, very disappointed for me. But, I assured her that God/Mother Nature were doing a fabulous job on their own without me interfering, except to mow paths. As you can see --- *A story for another time...

Very pretty. These remind me of the Midsummer wedding bouquets in LOTRO.

Thanks! All those flowers were picked in the southwest quadrant, because I did not mow it completely. I love this time of year here with the abundance of flowers. Andy, that river birch, you can see on the right side of the picture, gets water from our grey water pond. It's the only one with a nice crown of leaves. All the others look like heck. Interestingly. if we manage to get a good amount of rain, the river birches will put out a new set of leaves. In autumn the one in the picture will drop its leaves, while the others will hold on to their new leaves much longer. The waste (grey) water from our shower, bathroom sink, and clothes washer empties into a very small pond. Cattails purify the water and the birch uses what it needs, also. A link to Cattails

Ah, grey water -- no glorious birch to compare with your's, Fan, but the golf courses round here use grey water, and where the concrete ditches drain the courses the cattails grow profusely. "New research shows that cattails can also remove polluting materials from the water surrounding their roots." ( Cattails )
I did not know they had such remedial properties, but they are good to watch as the wind puts them into motion...

In my wanderings on YouTube yesterday, a little "ad" for this channel came up and I clicked on it. I was so sorry I did. I do not miss New Jersey nor the North Jersey accent. BUT, I MISS Great Pizza. (But, this is not the location I usually went to.) I have taken trips to NJ since moving. Every time, I have gotten pizza from Fed's, froze it, and brought it back. Treated the people at work to what real pizza is supposed to taste like. And it helped that it was Springsteen's Favorite, at least to the Administrator. Every town on this show is a part of my old stopping grounds in Central Jersey and I have eaten at many of these places. It is against the law to have a strip mall without a pizza joint. Just kidding, but I doubt there is a single open strip mall without one. It is, also, against the law to not fold your pizza slice.

Like the accent! Ummm, and pizza slice looks very cheesy. OK, now I need to have a pizza, have one in the freezer, will get it out.
