This is the first I heard about this. It is a shame that the new owner wishes to destroy the home and rebuild other homes rather than restore it. Too bad the owner doesn't donate the remaining Tolkien furnishings to the Bodelian Museum or Marquette.

it's such a shame really. Wouldn't the home generate him more revenue, and certainly serve a higher purpose, if he were to turn it into a museum? Elvis Presley's childhood home in Tupelo comes to mind as well as O'Henry's home right here in Austin.
Surely there are petitions. With Tolkien's fanbase I can't believe this can continue completely without notice. I mean, if the man owns the land then it's his to do with as he chooses, but I'd think there would be somehow to convince him otherwise (if it's not already done.).
Thoughts? Ideas?

I bet the new land owners are testing the waters to see what kind of buzz is generated. I would not be surprised if the property is resold at many times the price.
