Illadria! How nice to see you around again!
I will have to read the Shannara series. Right now I started the Inkheart series, it is more of an older kids book, but it has an interesting story line. I guess it is being made into a movie too.

Hi Desi! Great to see you too.
I read the premise to Inkheart and it does look really interesting. And now I am curious about other children's books. This one is likely too old, but I'm thinking of my granddaughter, Ambrosia who is eight years old and has a voracious appetite for literature. Her reading level is probably at about the fifth or sixth grade level right now, but I really just don't see any limits to her reading. She loves it so much. As soon as one book is put down she's on to another.
I'm just not sure what she should be reading given her age is younger than her ability. I worry about children being exposed at too young an age to anything that might threaten their naivete.

Illy:
Has your granddaughter read Christopher Paolini's Eragan and Eldest books yet? It is a trilogy and he is still writing the last book. He was 15 or 16 when he first began writing this story about Dragon Riders. They did make a movie of the first book (I think it came out last year).

I don't believe so. Thanks for the recommendations! I'll pass that on to my daughter.

I think the Bartimaeuous series is for kids (not sure what age), but there are some things referenced from the past that they wouldn't understand unless they all ready studied it. www.bookadventure.orgThis is a good website to find books for kids, you can put in the level of book and subject type and it gives you a ist. Plus it has quizes that you earn points to get prizes! My 7 year old (2nd grade) reads at a fourth grade level, so I have the same problem with finding books for him.

wonderful. Thanks! I'm anxious to check it out.
Also, and I can't believe I forgot to mention, prolly because the genre is completely different. But one of my all time favorite authors is Dean Koontz. In particular I recommend From the Corner of His Eye. Even if you don't thin you'd normally like his genre, I cannot recomment this book more highly. That and Watchers.

I know my mom has read some of his books and I have read his Door to December, which I really liked.

I LOVE Dean Koontz, too! Watchers is one of my favorites although the two movies that were made based on it sucked big time! I like Koontz much better than Stephen King, too.
I don't think I've read From the Corner of His Eye though. I will have to check it out.

Greetings, Linda! It's great to see you popping in here!
I have heard before of Dean Koontz, but so far I haven't read anything of him yet. I think I'm going to keep an eye open for him now. Right now I'm reading through Raymond E. Feist. That, and at the same time I'm reading some non-fiction about human interaction. And I still need to finish the Sil again...

Yay Androga! haha I've been working on Syl off and on for years I think. I hope you will read some Dead Koontz (AKA Dean R. Koontz) He is considered in the same genre as Stephen King, but I agree with Storm, I completely prefer Koontz over King any day. Storm, I think none of the movies based on Koontz books get it right because they're so concentrated on the horror aspect of it that they fail to see that his books are not about horror, they're about people, perseverence, and hope. I hope you'll read From The Corner of His Eye. Might even be his best. And Desi, you should read it after

Desi, I just ran across this thread in The Tolkien group on Facebook, in which they were discussing other authors they enjoy reading, etc... Let me know if you're unable to get to the discussion for whatever reason. www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=2204373892&topic=3368

There are a lot of new suggestions on that link, Illy. Thanks for posting it. I will make a note of some of them to add to my reading list.

Good. Glad it was useful to you. Androga is in that discussion group too as is Mark Rivers. And I saw someone with the last name Siebert and got realy excited, but it was a high school, so not our long lost Jay.
