Smaug got my vote...that witty repartee just won me over! And let's face it, he was loads better looking than his competition!

I had to go with Smaug too! I hope to see him on the big screen sometime soon!

I really like Melkor/Morgoth as a villian. He was the first and everything after that is just a cheap imitation. LOL

Oh man I should have left off Ugluk and put Melkor/Morgoth! How could I have left him out!

My vote went to Gollum, couldn't help it. I just love the way he talks, hissing all the time, and most of all I love his wrong grammar!

I went for Sauron. Talk about Uber Evil. If he had fingers, his pinky would be by his mouth a la Mike Myers' Dr. Evil...Muuuaaaaahhhhh....Muuuaaahhhh

My vote went to Gollum. Of all the villians, he came closest to redemption. Aside from Deagol, the only thing he hurt while in possession of the ring, were the fishes he ate. And all the while, the torture of the ring gnawed his mnd.

You left Saruman off the villain list, too!
However, I have always loved Gollum as the villain! He is so demented, sneeky, evil, twisted, hissy, slinks around, and is just plain fastinating!

My vote went to the Witchking of Angmar, albeit it is slightly influenced by the movies... I just loved him in RotK! That whispering hissing voice... And then that powerful shrieking of his!
A pity the Mouth of Sauron wasn't on the list, I think he would also have been terrifying...

I'd like to know more about The WitchKing of Angmar. From the beginning to his well deserved end.

I agree, Illy! The Witchking would be a very interesting evil entity to find out more about! I have not read into the HoME series much and am not sure if there are any extra tidbits on him in those or not. It would be very interesting to know how ALL the Nazgûl obtained their rings and how their downfalls came about.

It would be very interesting to know how ALL the Nazgûl obtained their rings and how their downfalls came about. That's exactly what I was thinking Stormy. There's a lot of history there, and each one has a story. That's what's so great about the professor's writing, it's so rich, and so deep... all of the characters, no matter how limited their part, are so utterly um... 3D. It's rare to find that with just a few characters in most stories, but that I would feel that way even about the villians speaks volumes I think.
