Smaug was a very interesting Dragon. He was crafty and sly and greedy. I have not read too many other stories about Dragons and I thought most stories were similar in describing them. Orgulas, what books have you read that changes this image? He's my favourite Dragon from the whole of Middle-earth lol. But the thing is, that he uses his wit only for evil things, or even only for his own comfort.
I've been quite interested in dragons for quite some years. First I indeed saw them as evil treasure guards. That picture is quite common in the west of Europe. Still I was intrigued about their might. Later I got to know more types of Dragons. I even have a book about them which describes many sorts, and not all of them are evil. I also reFriend a trilogy by Robin Hobb (I'm not sure anymore of the title). In it, a prince needed to craft a statue of a Dragon and bring it to life. Also pictures like Dragonheart has affected me a little. I started pondering on Dragons more, and developed an idea for a story of my own. They are wise, with great knowledge, and very powerful. They can be helpful when they see their power is needed, but they can be annoyed as well, so it's better not to mess with them. They use their power only in the ways that they think is best. They realize they can affect the world greatly with it. They know they could wipe out large parts of the world, especially when they act together. That's the same reason they're very careful with the powers they possess. They see themselves as a part of nature and as the defenders to weaker creatures against worse things (like demons and other unnatural beings). They like the glitter of gold, but don't put much value to it. Instead, they see magic as real treasure, so if there's something they could guard, it's that. Kind of the "Wizards" amongst non-human-shaped creatures. I know I borrowed in my vision quite some stuff from different types of Dragons known over the world (like from the Chinese ones lol), but that's what makes my Dragons Dragons. ;D

And you don't have to stereotype your Dragons to fit the norm either.
You can draw on all stories about them, take ideas from each story to create your own Dragons' personalities, and add some new ones of your own. That is what will make your Dragons unique.
Are you hoping to publish your Dragon stories someday? That would be a great accomplishment and I would love to read them!

Well, I'm not really thinking of publishing anything yet. It depends on whether the tales get finished or not lol. I'm writing a few tales at the same time, switching between them when my inspiration moves on, but that slows down each project. I write because I like to write, and not because I want to publish something. But it certainly is a possibility. ;D
Most of what I write however is in Dutch, with only a few exceptions like Darkleaf and Haysend lol. The Dragon tales are in Dutch as well, so I would need to translate them first, before I can let you read.

Well......keep writing whether you ever intend to publish or not, it is still a worthy project. Tolkien took decades to finish his stories. You are young and have much time to work on yours.
