Gandalf warns everyone they should be getting moving, before the goblins come to reclaim their prisoners, and Bilbo continues to questions Gandalf about them. Gandalf affirms, "you lose track of time inside goblin-tunnels." Can you think of other places in Middle Earth, whether mentioned in this text or in others, where you lose track of time? How do those places compare to the goblins' cave? Do any similarities imply some connection between those places and the goblins' cave?

It seems that you can lose track of time in Rivendel and Lothlórien but the time lost there is pleasant! You would lose yourself in peacefulness, beauty, song, and healing! Very different than time being lost in the Goblin-tunnel!
Of course, if you were a goblin in Rivendel or Lothlórien the time lost there might not have been pleasant at all! It might have seemed to a goblin like what Gollum experienced when held by the Elves of Mirkwood!

Time can be lost in the Old Woods where Tom Bombadil and Goldberry live. Just being with Tom would seem timeless. And Fangorn Forest and hanging out with Ents and their slow Entish language would mess with your timing.
