A couple of pages (in my copy of the book) into this chapter, the narrator reveals Bilbo "did rescue his friends in the end." Has he just given away the ending? How does this affect your interest in the story from here on out? Is all suspense gone?

I don't think we ever doubt that Bilbo will rescue his friends and they will continue their journey to its planned. The suspense lies in wondering how on earth he will manage to get all of them safely out of the separate cells and then out of the mountain.
