In chapter 10 the men of Lake-town sing of “The King beneath the mountains.” How does this song, one of men, compare to the Elves’, Goblins’, Bilbo’s and Dwarves’ songs? What distinguishes the men’s song from the others, and what distinguishes each of the others’?

While the Dwarves kitchen song teased Bilbo and the Elves song teased the Dwarves, this song is one of memory for days past when life between Dwarves, Men, and Elves was strong and thriving. This song is one of hope that those thriving days will return. I get the impression that the men respected the Dwarves and were giving them honor with this song of hope for better days to come with Thorin's return.
The song of men is more like the Dwarves song reciting their own memory of those days of hard work in the mines, the riches they mined, and treasures they crafted. BUT where the men's song ends in hope for a return of those days, the Dwarves song ends in the doom and destruction of the dragon.
