The first four paragraphs of Chapter Eleven bring the quest right up to the skirts of the mountain. Reread or reconsider the description of the mountain and the surrounding landscape. What kind of image do you get? Of what does this remind you? Compare and contrast the Lonely Mountain and its vicinity with Mt. Doom and the land of Mordor.
