I don't remember the previews for Hell Boy 1, but they never seemed like something I wanted to see as far as I remember. I like super hero movies so I guess I didn't realize that was what they were. I just saw the Hell Boy 2 preview in the theater and it looks interesting........

Desi: You should add both Hellboys to your list of movies from Netflix! and add Pan's Lybrinth to it for me.

Hilary sent me this link from iMDB news: www.imdb.com/news/ns0000002/?start=21Bilbo Baggins casting choices: McAvoy Tipped For Hobbit Role29 May 2008 12:09 AM, PDT Scottish actor James McAvoy has been tipped to take the lead role in the new movie version of Lord Of The Rings prequel The Hobbit. J.R.R. Tolkien's novel is set to be turned into a major blockbuster under the direction of Guillermo del Toro and filming is due to begin in New Zealand later this year. Sir Ian McKellen will reprise his role as Gandalf and McAvoy is rumoured to be the favourite to take the lead role of hobbit Bilbo Baggins. The character was played by Ian Holm in the previous films of the fantasy franchise, but he is due to be replaced by a high profile star for the new movie. A source tells British newspaper the Daily Express, "A number of names have been doing the rounds, including Daniel Radcliffe and Jack Black, but James (McAvoy) is the one the film's bosses really want. "They're expected to have talks soon so hopefully it could be confirmed in the not too distant future." And director del Toro adds, "I can tell you it's down to a few names that we all agree upon. For our first choice, completely magically we all have the same name." ***** Daniel Radcliffe and Jack Black? You gotta be kidding! Hilary says, "You may recognize Mr. McAvoy as Mr. Tumnus from the first Narnia film..."

It is very sad that Christopher Lee won't go back to New Zealand to portray Saruman again for the White Council. How old is he now? He does look pretty old in the video.
Do you think they could do his parts here and cut him into the other footage? It would really be a shame not to have him act out his character. Who else would they get to replace him?

I'd be surprised if Doug Jones wasn't in this. He and del Toro have worked together a number of times. He plays Abe Sapien in the Hellboy movies and the faun in Pan's Labyrinth.
By the way, Hellboy II was awesome. Saw it a few weeks ago. Much more focus on folklore and fantasy this time around -- elves, faeries, goblins, trolls, rock-giants, etc. It was an interesting preview of what del Toro might do with some of these creatures in The Hobbit. I assume they wouldn't be quite as twisted and creepy as in Hellboy but del Toro and his team's skill at creature design will be very handy.

Who or what company designs the creatures and make up for Del Toro's Hellboy and Labrinth movies? I wonder if he will use them or the companies that CJ used (Weta, etc.) for LOTR. Isn't Weta located in New Zealand?

I looked up the Hellboy movies on IMDB and it seems to be Spectral Motion Studios. They didn't work on Pan's Labyrinth though. So maybe he doesn't have a consistent team.
I think I heard that del Toro is moving to New Zealand for the production of this so I assume he'll use WETA to keep the look of Middle-earth consistent.

Here's a little tidbit on the progress of The Hobbit movie sent to me by Hilary. It comes from EW:
Another step closer! Woo Hoo!
I wonder how far they are in casting. That is the bit of news I would like to hear about.

the-hobbit-movie.com/ This link has a couple of interviews with Viggo Mortensen and John Nobel (who played Denethor) about coming back to do The Hobbit 2 Movie for the story of Aragorn. Viggo will definately come back but Nobel says he would be too old to play a younger Denethor.

Were the Stewards long-lived as well as the Rangers? If Viggo goes back to Gondor and Rohan as a young man in his teens or twenties, Théoden would be just a toddler but what about Denethor--would he have been a boy or would he be a young man, too? In the movie, he looks older than Aragorn even though Aragorn is older than he is? or is he?

This sucks if things are now gonna be even more post-poned! Christopher Tolkien sounds a bit money hungry...not that he shouldn't get what is coming to him, but he isn't doing any Tolkien fans any favors.....

Yeah, sounds like too many lawyers altogether...
I'll be blind from advanced old age long before they ever get a copy of the Hobbit up on the screen, grumble, grumble.

I went to IMDb and looked up both Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson and their list of movies in the works. The date both lists show is that The Hobbit and The Hobbit 2 will be in production in 2012. So does that mean that The Hobbit will be out in 2013 and The Hobbit 2 in 2014?
I wanted to put the dates that the movies will be out on the new banner that I am making for the top of our forum! I guess I will just have to say in production 2012.
