Personal Message Notification

I was just helping Illadria with something that I have never used myself! I learned something new. Maybe some of you already know how to have an email notification sent to you when someone sends you a personal message. Anyway, here is what I found out and thought I would share it with everyone just in case they didn't know about this feature as I didn't know about it!

When you click on the link in the upper right corner of the forum where it says Hey! (Whatever your name is) you have X messages, it will take you to your personal message center. There all your PM's will be listed. In the very upper right corner of the Personal Message center there is a tool icon that says preferences. Click on the tools. This directs you to the place you can make choices for your notifications. It says:

Below you can set your preferences for your personal messages.

Block Users
If you wish to not receive messages from any particular users, type in their username in the box below. You can enter one username per line. If you wish to block all messages, put a * in the box below. (There is a large box for your entries here)

Notification
Do you wish to have an email sent to you when a Personal Message is received?
No Yes

Would you like an alert box to notify you when a new Personal Message has arrived?
No Yes

Just fill in or select whatever you need to and voilà! You will receive notifications or block PMs if you wish . The forum default is set for no notification.

By the way, Illy, thanks for needing help. By helping you I learned something new about the forum that I didn't know before. I wonder what other things I don't know about!

It worked! I received an email with the subject line "Message Notification: Tolkien's Ring"

The message gives you a link to the forum, a reminder of your username with a link to the "Forgot password" link, and another link to your preferences if you want to stop receiving the emails.

So I went and replied to your message! Pretty cool!

I even sent Illy a PM, too, to see if she has been around to see that I found out how to set that preference!
