Hello Everyone.
Long time since I've been back to TR, and the transformation is astounding! Let me tell you what I've been up to in the intervenning 3-4? months...
"I have wandered far into the wilderness of Rhun and back again, following the line of the brooding, blasted peaks of the Ered Lithui Eastwards to where the blood-red sun would rise of a Middle-Earth morn... until I collapsed from hunger and exhaustion near some forsaken inland sea. As the cool waters of the Sea of Rhun lapped at my prostrate and broken body, one of the two myterious "Blue" Istari who disappeared out Eastwards in the Third Age turned up unexpectantly and revived me from my febrile dreams and, with a pat on the back handed me a hip-flask of finnest scotch whisky (12 year old) and rather gruffly informed me that he was a Tolkien creation that was scribbled roughly together on the back of an Oxford University envelope at the end of the sixties, and that Chris "Tollers" had cobbled him together and bundled him into the Istari chapter at the end of Unfinished Tales. In short, he was a minor mental distraction for the creator...as he grappled with the entrenched problems of his Silmarillion magnum opus. He seemed a bit put out about this.. muttering softly to himself that even "Dumb" Radagast got a few lines of speech and a passing reference from Saruman (albeit mockingly) in "The Fellowship of the Ring"....and after a few short words of confused farewell and thanks...I made my way back to Rhovanion and civilisation.
After getting back to dear old Blighty and noting in Unfinished Tales that the poor man indeed only gets a short footnote tagged onto the end of that informative eassay, together with his fellow "Blue companion" (Who has apparantly been abducted by aliens in Brmingham, Alabama, sometime in the Fouth Age) I finally got round to switching on my PC and I found my hotmail account and service provider had not been vandalised by maurauding Uruk-Hai whilst I was on my merry Jaunt Eastwards, and I am now happy to report back on TR!!"
In short...this is quite simply the greatest Tolkien web-site in the world. Well, anyway, I'm just going to take a while looking around the place...see how it's changed in the past few months since I was here.
I'm looking forward to posting again, and getting back into some stimulating and exciting creative writing on the role-play boards...thanks to Desi for this fantastic part of the forum. Alaere, Orgulas, Aeleorn, Storm, Pearl, Majah, etc...I look forward to chatting to you all in the near future..
Thanks to all the regular contributors and community administrators, you have all given so much insight and joy to many Tolkien fans and I am in awe of your Tolkien knowledge and enthusiasm for the greatest author in the English language and your unstinting drive to make this forum what it is...the most informative in cyber-space.
