The tale of the Lord of the Rings comes to its exciting conclusion in this volume of J.R.R.Tolkien's epic trilogy.
The armies of the Dark Lord, Sauron, are gathering in the Land of Shadow and are preparing for their assault on Gondor. Meanwhile, the members of the original Fellowship become caught up in separate missions of their own.
Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas have taken the ill-fated Paths of the Dead, Gandalf and Pippin ride to Minas Tirith carried by the swift steed, Shadowfax. Merry, left on his own in the company of the Riders of Rohan finds an unexpected accomplice to help him ride with the Rohirrim. Meanwhile, Sam is left with the burden of The Ring and how to rescue Frodo from the Orcs of Mordor.
Many armies come to the assistance of Gondor when the beacons are lighted signalling the call for help. The armies are very gladly received but number far fewer men than was hoped for. The strength of Sauron's armies is staggering and the weapons they use vile and evil.
