Hello all,

I'm Rob Harrison, and my wife and I are in the initial phases of the grand project of building a Hobbit Hole. It will be a type of Earth-Sheltered home, but we intend to follow Tolkien's guidelines as closely as possible, according to the specs he laid out in the beginning of The Hobbit. i looked into this site the other night and then visited with Storm about it briefly.
we decided to leave this thread on to let you all to check out the information since it is a cool idea...
BUT...
we are not encouraging any of our members to participate in their fundraising efforts...
AND...
we also want to go on record as reminding everyone to be cautious of anthing that could be considered a scam, etc that are being presented dailey on the internet and to always do your homework before becoming involved.
(and we assume the posters of this message would agree with us totally!)

while we consider the members here as family and wish to help and encourage them in any of their personal Tolkien endeavors, we do not encourage joining our group as solely an avenue to advertise such personal ventures!

Thanks for the well-wishing and thank you to the administrators for letting us post here! We aren't specifically requesting funding, just help in getting the word out about our project to like-minded fans who would enjoy reading about us. We didn't join here just to advertise - we'd like to remain part of the community and post and reply here about things related to our project.

We do indeed encourage people to be skeptical of anyone online - especially those who accept donations. My wife and I are real people and this is a legitimate project, but don't take my word for it. I am sorry, I cannot help you with any ideas on how to go about building this. It sounds like you have done your research and have contacted people who know what to do to accomplish this. So I am sure you have a very good start on making this a reality.

We would love to hear more as you progress and see pictures of the stages of development. Please share! We are curious!

Thanks for everyone's interest and support! We're actually looking into financing a house and keeping a tenant for the next 1-2 years. That would help us build equity and save money towards the project, while giving us a quieter place to live and concentrate on the project in the meantime. Hopefully we'll have a place within 6 months if all works out, and then we'll focus more on the next step of finding land and developing the plans to be suited for the layout of whatever land we find.

Right now we're still waiting on the financing, and have just posted about other things for the past week. We hope to be able to post on our site about obtaining financing sometime in the next few days, so check back.
