The pictures were lost--they were:
Aglarond by Ted Nasmith
Gimli and Legolas
Fangorn by Ted Nasmith
Wk12, Bk6, Ch6, DISCUSSION: Of Caves and Forests
When the travelers arrived at Helm’s Deep, Legolas repaid his promise to Gimli and went with him to the Glittering Caves. When they returned, Legolas was silent saying that only Gimli could find the words to describe them: "And never before has a Dwarf claimed a victory over an Elf in a contest of words."
Legolas, as we know, is an elf of few words but why would he not offer some comment about the caves that his friend held so dear ? Do you think he was impressed by them? He did have the chance to see them before but found an excuse not to visit at that time. What thoughts, do you think, did Legolas have of Aglarond?
After the reunion with Treebeard in Isengard, Legolas with Fangorn’s leave departs to visit the deep places of the Entwood. As promised Gimli goes with him, "though with no great delight, it seemed." We do not learn of that journey here but how do you think the dwarf reacted to those "deep places" that Legolas is drawn to?
At the end of Appendix A, there is a bit more to be learned of the friendship of Legolas and Gimli.
We have heard tell that Legolas took Gimli Gloin's son with him because of their great friendship, greater than any that has been between Elf and Dwarf. If this is true, then it is strange indeed: that a Dwarf should be willing to leave Middle-earth for any love, or that the Eldar should receive him, or that the Lords of the West should permit it. But it is said that Gimli went also out of desire to see again the beauty of Galadriel; and it may be that she, being mighty among the Eldar, obtained this grace for him. More cannot be said of this matter.
What do you think? Would Gimli be willing to leave Middle Earth? Could Galadriel have obtained this grace for Gimli? Do you think that there might be caves in the Elvenhome?
