The pictures was lost--it was a picture of Gimli and Eomer, called "Foolish Words" by Steven Cavallo
Wk12, Bk6, Ch6, DISCUSSION: Gimli and Eomer's Settlement
"...Eomer of Rohan came riding to the City...And before he went to his rest, he sent for Gimli the Dwarf, and he said to him: "Gimli Gloin’s son, have you your axe ready?’"
There were certain rash words between the two that needed settling. When Gimli first met Eomer on the grassy plains of northeastern Rohan, he and his companions, Aragorn and Legolas were in search of Merry and Pippin who had been carried off by orcs. Eomer, who had only heard of Galadriel in tales, suspected that these three hunters, traveling with the favor of the lady, must also be " net-weavers" and "sorcerers" . Immediately Gimli raised his axe to strike. Before he could do so, Aragorn came between them. When they had exchanged their tales, Eomer apologized for his rash words concerning the Lady and said that he would gladly learn better. When they parted, Eomer hoped that their swords would thereafter shine together. Gimli promised to return and said, " The matter of the Lady Galadriel lies still between us. I have yet to teach you gentle speech." To which Eomer responded, "So many strange things have chanced that to learn the praise of a fair Lady under the loving strokes of a Dwarf’s axe will seem no great wonder."
Now that Eomer had finally seen Galadriel with his own eyes, he admitted to the dwarf that she was not the fairest he had seen. Gimli was about to go for his axe but Eomer bade him listen to his excuse. He had also seen Queen Arwen and has placed her first. "Shall I call for my sword?" Gimli bowed and excused him.
Of course this was all in jest, but why did Gimli excuse the Man of Rohan? He was about to go for his axe but why was he willing to let Eomer claim the Evening even though he would continue to give his love to the Morning?
