From: Stormridr (Original Message) Sent: 6/12/2003 9:48 PM "Fornost Erain" from the French website, iFrance "Up away by Deadman's Dike?" said Butterbur, looking even more dubious. "That's haunted land, they say. None but a robber would go there." "The Rangers go there," said Gandalf. "Deadman's Dike, you say. So it has been called for long years; but its right name, Barliman, is Fornost Erain, Norbury of the Kings. And the King will come there again one day; and then you'll have some fair folk riding through." Why do "they say" that Deadman's Dike is haunted? What happened at Fornost Erain? Why did(do) the Rangers go there? Barliman Butterbur seemed very dumbfounded when it finally sunk in that Strider was the new King. He was beginning to realize that the Rangers were the Númenoreans who held the northern Realm of Arnor and kept it safe. Were the Breelanders finally realizing that the Rangers had been keeping the peace in the lands? Do you think they will respect them more now?

From: Merlin the mad Sent: 6/22/2003 4:58 PM The great almost apocalyptic battle of Fornost occurred there in 1975 TA. To it the Shire had sent a company of bowmen who never returned: the "good guys" were victorious - banishing the Witchking of Angmar and destroying his powerful realm - but the cost was the ruling house of Arnor: the northern kingdom was no more, until Strider restored it.
