The votes are in and tallied, and we have a tie!
Please join me in congratulating this month's winners --
Glorfindle and Megn1!
Not surprisingly for such an excellent group of poems, the voting was spread out, with each entry having its fans -- but Glor and Megn squeaked ahead to tie for the win. Our virtual TR laurel wreath will adorn their brows for the entire month of November.
All of our poets are winners for their creativity and courage. Thanks and big pats on the back to you all. Bravo!
We've gotten some wonderful topic ideas for the November contest. If anyone has others, post 'em here. I'll announce the topic on Saturday.

Thanks for the votes everyone, although I felt many other poems entered, far out did mine. I am really looking forward to the contest getting bigger and better each month, and now that the Poetry board is in the capable hands of our Mod Olorie, I am sure it will. Congrats again, Meg!! Your poem was clever and fun! I agree with Annie that the font colors really gave the impression of a Hill rising up to the sky.
And to ALL the poets out there.......if you feel like me, writing and reading them is where the fun is really at. We fully intend to have contest prizes eventually, but they will be a time off yet, as the prizes will come from revenue our merchandise ideas have not realized yet. Hopefully the new look for our site, due to be rolled out in a little bit will help that. Things will only get better, as we improve our management skills, the Moderator program, and soon, our Artist Guild. GO, TR!!
Glor

Megn1 stands, sweeps off her hood, and bows low.
I am grateful for this affirmation from this group. All my life I have known, with absolute certainty, that I am not a poet. Now perhaps you are teaching me differently.
Glor - thank you for your encouragement. When I realized the deadline was about to pass I was going to just forget about it, except that I had promised you I would contribute something. For most of the month you lamented being the only contributor. And I agree with the voters - yours deserved to win. I like the way you describe the first-born coming along to play. That is a wonderful image of the delight of the newly awakened elves in all that they found in the world. And the endingof your poem is powerful. It was your use of the green color that inspired me to play with color in mine!
There was an incredible variety of well written poems produced for this contest. It's fascinating to see how differently we each approached the same topic.
It would be wonderful to have even more contributions next month!

(October 2002 Poetry Contest)
Megn: Using green and blue text color was a wonderful touch. I could really feel and see the Hill moving and breathing. Very earthy poem. The voice of the earth herself was speaking here.
Glorfindle: You have a gentle and powerful way with words. They flow out easily as if you had a muse on your shoulder. I particularly like the reference to the "lists" and "memories" that "Treebeard passed along the trees."
