Here's a sad poem I wrote recently about an imaginary lost elven lover:
Tomorrow He Leaves
Far away the white ship sails towards the Western seas
The soft sound of the surf is in my ears
Beside me his fair skinned hand rests on my dark hair.
I turn to look into his golden eyes
I reach out for his pale yellow hair
I gently touch his leaf-shaped ears
My elf is beautiful and all I want in this world
But tomorrow he leaves

His pale lips form words but I can’t hear them
His hands touch my face but I can’t feel them
His bright eyes are filled with tears
And tomorrow he leaves

We tried to be true but the world is changing
His people are leaving while mine must remain
On this shore I will abide forever weeping
Watching the cruel white ships steal my love away
Taking my wretched mortal heart with them
Because tomorrow he leaves

Cenerue, this is wonderful. Anyone who has had to leave loved ones can feel her anguish. Thank you for sharing this with us.

The white ships stand out from land,
Borne west by the call of fate,
Her raven locks beneath my hand,
Within my heart the pain so great.
The People are leaving and I must go,
And my love may follow not;
Blood and Lore declare it so;
Why run my tears so hot?
She is a mortal, and I am Elf;
Our love and loss, our doom;
My love must hold it to herself,
Eternity is my tomb.
I take the ships to the fabled West;
But my soul stays here within her breast.
Your words are too lovely to match, Cenerue, but the loveliness moves my poor voice to answer, even though the answer may fail to match the beauty of your lament. A poor sonnet, but the best I can manage.

Cenerue: your poem brought tears to my eyes, it was so moving....
Endirion: do not be too shy, your poem was excellent too.
The both of you are very talented, so maybe we can expect more "duets" in the near future?
