FANGORN The contest for November will be about Ents and/or Fangorn. We will be doing an Art Contest on the same topic. Submissions for this contest will have a unique set of rules though. Both poetry and art submissions, will, by nature of their submissions, allow both TR and TE exclusive property rights to display the content (with creditation of course) on either web site. This does not mean you do not hold sole ownership of your own work, it just allows our sites to display them. By entering this contest, you agree to the above agreement. In no way, shape or form does anyone other than the named sites have permission to reproduce your work without your consent.
That said........The leaves are falling all around... Time we were on our way Thanks to you I'm much obliged It was such a pleasant stay....
I guess I'll just keep..............ramblin' (Led Zeppelin)

This is just a quickie, and not very good, but I needed a poetry fix: Black Jack Cutting
Black Jack Cutting was a Pirate of Yore Who disappeared on the forest floor But in ages old he came to shore His men were cut-throats, nothing more
His ship went aground, or so it is said Marched through the Havens and filled them with dread Akin to Old Sauron the Legend is fed And many wonder if he is still dead
Old Jack found his way to a forest Dark and Old, he sent up his chorous "Fell the trees, men, and make us a shelter!" They fell about the task almost helter skelter
Then Fangorn awoke and with a great ease He sent his Hourons as fast as you please "Before you cut even one bough more, Your grave is now on the forest floor."
And Old Jack Cutting now is dead The forest floor his leafy bed And Fangorn stands and still "hrroooooms" "Watch your step and give us some roooom!"

i do not do this well but my intentions are of the purest sort with this poem... it just sorta came to me...
Friend Fangorn
I never thought that I would see A man as fine as this tree
But in my Fangorn, I've found it so Covered with bark, a much deeper soul
In poetry he shares his gift Romance, Despair...a velvet grip
His passion deep, his anger near The highest standards of which I fear
Completely loyal, devoted and kind Someone to share what's in your mind
A heart of wood? No wait! It's Gold! His leafy arms keep me from cold.
Please tell the one of whom I'm fond Come this day to seal our bond.
Majah

Last month when i was researching different styles of poetry, i ran across information on writing Japenese Haikus (bless me). when i was a much younger hippy, this was a form of poetry that really appealed to me because of it's simplicity and the small amount of words you used to get your vision onto paper. (and they are so fun to illustrate too!)
so naturally the Ent topic seemed to lend itself to the Haiku (bless me) form.
since i already have submitted my 'official' entry, i just wanted to share this with you all (and maybe make some extra brownie points with our Master Bard)
so with an entry explanation that is 10 times longer than the Haiku (bless me) itself.... here it is...
Fall in the Fangorn Forest
Quiet leaves... resting against the wind autumn dream
Majah p.s. does anyone have a hanky?

This just sort of came to me one day so I wrote it out...It is more of a joke than my entry for this month! They all went marching toward Isengard The Ents came marching one by one, Hurrah! Hurrah! The Ents came marching one by one, Hurrah! Hurrah! The Ents came marching one by one Treebeard called an entmoot, when it's done They all went marching toward Isengard Hoom, Boorar, Boom.
The Ents came marching two by two, Hurrah! Hurrah! The Ents came marching two by two, Hurrah! Hurrah! The Ents came marching two by two Quickbeam striding so fast led the crew They all go marching toward Isengard Hoom, Boorar, Boom.
The Ents came marching three by three, Hurrah! Hurrah! The Ents came marching three by three, Hurrah! Hurrah! The Ents came marching three by three Skinbark grabbed an orc by it’s knee They all went marching toward Isengard Hoom, Boorar, Boom.
The Ents came marching four by four, Hurrah! Hurrah! The Ents came marching four by four, Hurrah! Hurrah! The Ents came marching four by four Merry and Pippin banged on the door They all go marching toward Isengard Hoom, Boorar, Boom.
The Ents came marching five by five... The Hurons went south, the orcs their drive
The Ents came marching six by six.... Angry Ents crushing orcs like sticks
The Ents came marching seven by seven.... Treebeard was hasty and got even
The Ents came marching eight by eight... Leaflock shook, in ruins was the gate
The Ents came marching nine by nine... Beechbone on fire, a sad way to shine
The Ents came marching ten by ten Roused Ents produced a flood, that’s the end!

As of Midnight tonight, this contest will be closed. Please everyone realize how important participation in these contests are. It is not just a monthly contest, but an enduring legacy of this site and it's members. Long after we are gone, our words will live on.
Tolkien Entmoot, TR's sister site, had a chance to capture our poets words and put them to art. Thanks to the artistic talents of Majah, Storm, Desi, and others, the words will live longer than on a simple fan site page.
These heart felt words, and longings of the soul, are now captured on art plaques, lovingly put together, as a calendar for 2005. Please visit this link, and order a 2005 TR/TE Calendar for YOUR Tolkien fan. Yes.....my precious!

Sorry for the delay. The polls for the November contest will be up soon. Because of the Holidays, there will be no December contest, so everyone can take a breather. We'll be back with our poetry studies again in the New Year, 2005!
