We have just returned from Texas and competed in the National Championship "Super Ride V" www.superride.us/ (They are working on updating the website with the new information) We performed our competition drill on Friday late afternoon in the mixed rider division, our pirate drill a little after noon-time on Saturday in the theme division, and then the competition drill again in the big open division Saturday evening. Division 5 - Mixed Riders (men, women, children, adults) We placed 4th out of 9 teams Division 3 - Theme (our priate drill) We placed 5th out of 15 teams Division 1 - The big open competition (This was a tough division) We placed 14th out of 16 teams We brought home the trophy for travelling the furthest distance! lol! We didn't take home any ribbons, belt buckles, or money but we were pretty pleased with our placings in Divisions 3 and 5. We had a really good ride for Division 1 but the other teams were much more experienced and had been together longer than us. It was a tough division to compete in. We learned a whole lot watching other teams and it was well worth our trip down. It was blazing hot and humid down there and we and our horses were really hot and sweaty before, during, and after our rides! All those Southern teams still looked cool and comfortable but I guess their blood is thinner and they and their horses can take the heat better than us. As soon as I get pictures organized, I will post a few here.

Stormrider and Desi, congratulations!
The competition must have been fierce. When you figure that your placements made you fourth, fifth and even 14th on a nationwide basis, wow, that's impressive! Yeah, "sweaty-horses," I bet you would have needed a full week to acclimate to the Texas weather, and then of course, you guys had all that road time too.
My old Mac does not even begin to load video footage, so I'll grab the wife's PC (slow loading even there!) and check out the action -- reminds me of the "good ole days" back in Cheyenne Wyo when, as little kids, my brothers and I rode for the Air Base team, great memories. And we'll be looking forward to some pictures!

Stormrider again Stormrider in the Pirate Drill Here I am again getting ready to clash swords with our team manager. This is our pinwheel and Toi and I are the horse closest to the viewer. This isn't the best view of the pinwheel maneauver. Desi is on the chestnut with the big blaze on the left. Her name is Melony. Desi again. Desi and Jenny sword fighting. "Aaarrr! Take that, you roudy riff raff!"

OK, "real" horseback pirates!
Thanks for sharing the photos!
You two really are having fun. I love it!
I can see there must be some precision choreography going on here -- everytime my brothers and I tried "passages at arms" we simply ran into one another -- confusion, chaos, and sometimes a fall or three. Of course we could never get the old stable nags to charge properly, but even at at a three mile per hour walk we were a menace to good order.
I still have not had a chance to view the video portions, but even from the stills I get the feeling Toi and Melony are moving along at a good clip -- no collisions? You Renegades are good!
I'm trying to imagine a cavalry charge under real combat terms, or even the Middle-earth variety -- I don't think I'd be able to hold my seat for long...

Nice shot, Desi! But you and Stormrider are both smiling entirely too much -- maybe your team is just filled up with happy horse-pirates, but a few scowls might make the combat more convincing, just kidding!
Yeah, I noticed how much energy must have been expended down there, some of the horses were frothing.

Arrrggh! I tried to load the videos on my wife's PC, could not get them to play more than just the first 30 seconds... I did hear a bit of music, and a rousing cheer as the troupe came in.
