We went to the theater a week ago and saw Eragon. I really liked the dragon and the wizard was creepy! The movie moved along fast, not too much detail which was good for my 2 boys (an other kids-I thik this is meant to be a kids movie). Since I did not read the book I didn't realize who the dwarves and the elf were, I just thought everyone were regular people, but that did ruin the movie.
When the movie was over my littlest one said "me watch again" and I had to tell him we had to wait for it to come onto DVD to buy.
All in all I liked it and I can't wait to see the next parts of it. It most definatly isn't as detailed as Tolkiens works, but it was fun!

After reading Eragon and Eldest, I was surprised to see the Eragon movie was only an hour and forty minutes long. As Desi stated above, the movie moved quickly.
There was much more character building and bonding in the book. Brom taught Eragon a whole lot more in the book. They also went to other places before they met up with the people in the mountains. Some characters were cut out (like the werecat, Eragon's cousin's girlfriend, Brom's friend in the sea village, and the bald twin seers--to name a few).
But I thought they did a pretty good job in condensing the book into a movie. The scenery was beautiful and the action was pretty good. Saphira the dragon was very nicely done--she was really cute as a hatchling!
But Desi said she did not realize the girl was an Elf--she thought she was a princess from the northern providences. The people in the mountains were black people and dwarves. I had to let Desi know that the ones with beards were dwarves because they were as tall as regular people. I can't remember what their size was in the book--they may still have been tall.

From a newsletter I get from the Alagasia website, www.alagaesia.com/, Christopher Paolini seemed pleased with the movie.

Thanks for the information here, Desi and Stormrider. I've never even heard of this book series, although I did see one or two movie adverts about it a couple of weeks ago. I'll see if the local library has a copy of the first book. I'd rather read it, and then go see a film version... Maybe I'll wait til it comes out on DVD if I can't get right to it?
The author sounds like a nice guy from his autobiographical letter!

The author is young, he started writing Eragon when he was 15 (which is when he graduated high school) and now he is 23.
