Yesterday on yahoo I saw this titled lottery winner to start a real Hogwarts, but today when I looked it up and read it is was about starting a wiccan school....any thoughts? There are catholic and lutheran and who knows what other religious schools so I guess why not a wiccan one. I actually worked with a wiccan and she seems pretty normal, but I am sure there are all different levels people take the religion. rawstory.com/news/2007/Wiccan_lottery_winner_plans_to_open_1030.html

Yeah, the Wiccans I've known were all "normals," LOL, usually lawyers, teachers, business professionals who seem to treat it as a sort of society like being a Shriner or a Mason. For others it may be a deep religious faith. Both of the Wiccans I knew were still staunch Catholics and saw nothing conflicting in their adoption of Wiccan ways as well. I imagine, just as with any group of people, you'll find all sorts, with all sorts of individualized interpretations and levels of involvement.

Wow catholic and wiccan...The lady I knew practiced wicca, but didn't push any beliefs on her children and let them make their own disicions about religion. She did take vacation during halloween, but it was for the fall equinox celebrations and rituals...

I don't believe wiccan would teach some of the things that is taught at Hogwarts. Isn't wiccan more to do with nature? Hogwarts teaches spells and incantations and such. I don't believe wiccan teach magic spells--but then I don't know much about wiccan myself and I could be wrong!

I am not sure why when yahoo did the hot spot news title they said a real Hogwarts cuz the wizards and witches at Hogwarts are nothing like the witches of wicca...or should that be the witches of Eastwick, LOL!
When I actually read the article it was about opening a wiccan school...my questions are is it a school for kids, if so is it more like catholic school were you get regular schooling and religious all in one or more like Sunday school were you attend public school and Sunday school....or is it a school for adults?

Yeah, I'm kind of confused here as well. I got the feeling that the writer threw in the catchy "Hogwarts" term when it was not really appropriate at all. A Wiccan school, OK, but not a Hogwarts...

I think that the media will just use something like 'Hogwarts' to grab attention quickly in this sort of story. Since the Harry Potter phenomonon is so big now it's just a sort of handle to draw readers/viewers in by. Also the media has a limited amount of info about Wicca-especially they get hung up about the word 'witch'. 8^)
