In honor of the holiday weekend, let's take a week off from Silmarillion - that will give everyone a chance to catch up.
So we are pausing at Quenta Silmarillion chapter 20.
Many of you indicated you had fallen behind. The payoff is coming! Chapter 19, on Luthien and Beren, is worth the whole trip. You'll appreciate it more if you have digested all that came before. OR, if you've hopelessly lost steam in the earlier chapters, go ahead and cheat. Skip ahead and read chapter 19. That may arouse your interest for some of the earlier stuff - you'll want to know how we get there. Certainly chapter 19 is the most important for developing some of the themes of LOTR - I guarantee that if you read it you will find your enjoyment of LOTR enriched.
We'll start moving again next week.
If you are catching up, use the syllabus to figure out which week's reading you are currently doing. All the discussion threads are marked by week number. Check out the questions and discussion for the week you are in, and add your comments. There's no reason why we can't go have all the discussion threads going at once!

This is a well-timed vacation! I am OK on the reading but have not had time to participate on the boards lately. Now I will have a chance to do so. Thanks!
