Not pushing, but, if Desi can post before Mon. morning, I'll add something before I leave on vacation. Otherwise, I'll try to post something while I'm gone. But, it may end up being 6/16, if I don't have time or internet. Fan

I can have a tendency toward the epic tales at times and since I figured the trek down the west side of the mountain range could drag on. Once we knew which path we would take, I just figured I would write it out since I knew the horsey stuff pretty well. And once the fish stunning poison was planned out, I went with it rather than do my other tricky stuff (which I will spring on us all some other time in the story). Good octopi have gills, so hopefully The Watcher does, too! I know Desi was busy today and tonight when I let her know she was up for adding to our tale. She has to catch up reading several of our bits to get herself caught up. I didn't see at the bottom of our home page that she has visited TR today yet. So I don't expect her to post quickly. But that's okay if we have to hold on any entries until you get be Fanuidhol.

I guess Gollum didn't think we were interesting enough to follow. Maybe the cell phone light (1 of Desi's important personal possessions) was enough to keep him away! Very funny, Desi, playing on my hot flashes while cooped up in the tunnels. We went on atrail ride today and just walked. I timed how long an hour of horseback walking took . . . 13 minutes.

I debated having gollum make an appearance with a play on my name being Desi Baggins and him looking for a baggins... but I just coudnt get something worked up... he could always pop up now before we cross the bridge cuz he wouldn't be in the same spot as when frodo heard him, he would be on his way there...
yes couldn't help but play on the hot flashes lol!!!

Also an hour of horse back walking would take an hour not 13 minutes... or did you mean a mile would take 13 minutes? which is weird because people can walk 1 mile in 12 minutes, but then a horse walks about the same speed as a human...

Horses have four basic gaits, referred to as a walk, trot, canter and gallop. The average speeds for each of the basic gaits are: Walk--3 to 4 mph; Trot--8 to 10 mph; Canter--10 to 17 mph and Gallop--25 to 30 mph. The top speed of most horses is considered to be around 45 miles per hour, although some racehorses have been known to exceed this speed.

Yep that's what I meant a MILE takes 13 minutes.

Good post Desi, moves us right along, but Gollum can still pop up... Cranky, eh? Hmmm, will keep that in mind, don't need any fights in the company.

I dont have "hot flashes" anymore but I just cant stand being really hot and sweaty. It really drives me nuts. I guess I do get cranky, or short tempered and frustrated.
Desi does get very claustophobic going over bridges. She had to drive the horse trailer over a bridge during construction on our way to a drill team competition in Texas and she started going slower and slower ans was creeped out and I kept telling her she was almost to the end.
I dont like standing on something tall (like the Sears Tower) looking out over the window ledge. Creeps me out big time. However, I can fly and look out the window any enjoy the shrinking scenery below without any problem. I guess it is only if I am on top of something attched to the ground.

I've slowed us down alittle. Building tension? I am going on vacation. If it comes around to me again and I haven't posted something in 72hrs, Andy go ahead and post.
Great posts, Ladies. I knew I didn't have time to do the actual witnessing, fleeing, etc any justice, so, I diverted us for the moment. Andy, it is up to you! Fan
PS I hate bridges with water under them. But, I am pretty good with heights, if there is something solid under my feet. If my feet are dangling from a height greater than 20 feet, forget it.

Okay, we all have our own little quirks about heights and bridges. This should be an interesting crossing when the time comes! Wonder how Andy is with heights/bridges!
Okay, Gollum won't know that Desi is a Baggins unless someone says her full name out loud so he can hear that! Otherwise, we would just be a curiosity to him and nothing to seek out further. Well, maybe we look like lunch or dinner to him.
Do any of us have a weapon--other than steak knives? Andy, do you have anything stashed away on you? Algy and Rivers both had swords but the ladies didn't. It might not be a bad idea to get some weapons in the future. We don't want to be eaten!Stormrider has ropes and she and DaleAnn know how to lasso things from a previous post in the first group of us Adventurers. Perhaps Desi knows, since she is Stormy's daughter.
Being on horseback, and we did some loping and galloping after Hollin Ridge, do you think we are about two days ahead of The Fellowship or more? According to FOTR, A Ring Goes South, The Fellowship had taken a fortnight (14 days according google search) to get to just north of Hollin Ridge. And they had covered 45 leagues distance. (google search said 1 league = 2.4 to 4.6 miles so if we go with 3.5 miles for a league, we would be in the middle of the google length description) So 45 x 3.5 = 157.5 miles. They would have gone about 11.5 miles a day at that rate and I think JRRT said they made about 10 miles a day, so perhaps a league is closer to the 2.4 mile figure.
Desi posted some riding speeds above and if we mostly walked with some trotting, we would not have been too far ahead of The Fellowship at that point. But after Hollin Ridge we started loping and galloping more. I don't see any distance references for this last part of the journey to the West door.but it looks like about half the distance of the first part above Hollin Ridge.

OK, need some good weapons, and let's try a meeting with Gollum, and find a place to watch the Balrog/Gandalf fight...
Working on it now.

Just make sure we are on the OTHER side of the bridge before Gandalf and the Balrog break it to pieces! ;D
