Yeah, Stormy, complex stuff apparently, not sure the specialists really know the full story yet...
Fan, humph -- high on endorphins/ dopamines/ adrenaline, and probably getting a vitamin D rush from the sunshine...
This climb is only about 65 feet, I'm at 60 or so in the photo -- sometimes the apparent height is exaggerated by the camera.

Just may be able to go back to original plan, full Desktop Dell with medium level graphics. Learned that the govt. is still planning a "stimulations" package... I've 1200 in the "new refrigerator" fund, and 600 in new computer fund, if we do get the 600 from the govt. -- yippie!

I don't care how you get back...only that you get back. We are roughly 7 weeks shy of a year since we've seen Holdo's furry feet waving in the air as he rolls on the ground laughing. Every time I hear a male Hobbit laugh, I get teary-eyed over the lost Holdo.

Many times I've thought to turn around and look for Holdo when I hear the male Hobbit laugh, too. Has it been almost a year?

ROFLOL - yeah, forgot that Holdo has that tendency to "guffaw," especially after he gets slaughtered and sent to another resurrection circle with you two and Freddy... A good laugh also helps as Fan leads us over another desperately high cliff, or Twizzle decides to wake a sleeping dragon just to see what it's got in its pockets -- slaughtered again! LOL...
Almost a year... Wow. Hope to be back sooner than later -- will call the Treasury Office, tell them I feel it is my good-citizen's duty to help the economy by spending some money, but, er, need the money first...

Had a very pleasing event occur this last Friday. I've been complaining to all and sundry about the lack of butterflies down here in the valley. We used to see on a daily basis about 20 different species hovering over the verbena and lantana, but the last five years or so, we get about three or four species, and usually no more than three or four individuals per day. Have not seen a monarch butterfly since 2018, no fritllaries, no mourning cloaks, nor any of the tiny blues. One I especially liked was the Sara Orange Tip. Have not seen any of them since 2017. But, while out on a climbing trek Friday, tucked into a narrow slot canyon at about 4000 foot elevation, 10 miles from the city -- 5 Sara Orange Tips, flitting about in our ravine. Gave me quite a lift from the normal depressions of life! We still have some Sara Orange Tips! Attachments:

I've never seen nor heard of this species of butterfly before. It's pretty.
With the loss of so much foliage from last year's fire, I am glad you are seeing butterflies now.
Speaking of which, how are things growing back now? I assume it will take some time, but nature does have some tricks up her sleeves after a disaster.

I just got a sustainable how to book with all kinds of floral and vegetable growing practices, not to mention home heating and cooling ideas. Your link had a link on how to help bees and butterflies. It suggests milkweed and late summer/fall blooming flowers and bushes.
I hope we get some property soon to put these into practice!

Stormy: In general, the great ash heaps and barren patches are sending up new grasses, but still fairly cold on the mountain tops, some snow cover over the burnt trees so I cannot see any seedlings yet. The State government and the National Parks admin are talking about replanting some areas by hand and with a machine that shoots two year old pines into the soil along the highway to help stop excessive soil loss. So far I have not seen them at work, too early yet? Down lower, in those areas the fire missed, things look pretty good, but a bit on the brown side, not much rainfall this year, still in drought conditions. Temperatures are wild as well, 50 degree highs with 28 degrees at night in our valley, then suddenly a warm up, 81 degrees yesterday. Our outdoor potted plants are all confused, start to bloom, look pretty good, then get frosted and die back again. The main concern is the lack of rain. Normally we get 5 to 6 inches over the winter in the valleys, only have 1.5 so far. Fan: Thanks for the butterfly source! Yeah, this has become a global problem. Wondering if I could help by planting milk-weed in the back yard, LOL, neighbors would call the weed board on me I'm sure! Another that used to be common here, not seen for several yeas, is the Adelphi: Attachments:

4 AM, strange light outside, a sort of pearlescent glow, crawled out of bed for a closer look -- snow. Big, poorly-shaped, wettish flakes lit up by the Moon, though I cannot make the lunar body out, just its diffused radiance. On the ground, about an inch of the loose white stuff. Not sure when it last snowed here, down in our backyard -- be gone by 9 AM I bet...

Odd that the glow woke you up. It must have been very bright.
All our snow has melted except for the mounds from pushing it off the driveways and even those are very diminished. Weather has been in upper 40's and mid-50's and sunny.

The whole thing is odd. Are you sure it was snow and not some phosphorescent or florescent flakes of some unknown origin raining down on you?
Hope you enjoyed it while it lasted.
Hoping we are done with the white stuff for the year. Biggest snowstorm was about 4". The sun melted it within a day or two.

The weathermen tell us a few more inches of snow in the next couple of days. I hope it won't be much and that it will be the end of it.
