Morgan le Fay is King Arthur's sorceress half-sister, one of the main villains of the Arthurian legends. She frequently plotted against her brother and wanted to usurp his throne.

I'll be adding a bit to this thread (soon -- I hope! Having some trouble with depression-induced writer's block lately...) concerning a "modern style meme" that I thought the Gawain author was developing, a meme we know from many TV presentations, movies, books (even Tolkien uses this meme) -- but the Gawain author seems to have set the meme up nicely in the first pages of his text, only to abandon it as he developed the later parts of his tale. Grrr, oh well, half a meme is better than none?
So, what's a "meme?"
The following definition from wikipedia works well for me:
"A meme is an idea, behavior, or style that spreads by means of imitation from person to person within a culture and often carries symbolic meaning representing a particular phenomenon or theme."

So sorry about your writers block! I hope you get it straightened out soon. You have a way with words and I enjoy reading your thoughts.
And a Sir Gawain meme ... Hmmm now I'm curious!
