June 18, 2006 Sad news...Tim Hildebrandt passed away on June 11, 2006, from complications due to diabetes. I am grateful for all the wonderful art he and his brother have given to the world, not only Tolkien-related, but in other fantasy realms as well, such as Star Wars and The Sword of Shannarra. There is a very nice tribute to Tim Hildebrandt on the Spiderwebart site: www.spiderwebart.com/TimHildebrandt61206.html

I really appreciate the Hildebrandt Brothers art. Majah had sent me an art book for winning one of our Art contests. This was a book of Tolkien art they had painted.
In this book, there are snapshots of the Brothers setting up "props" and "lighting". They used real people including their sons and friends to pose in blankets, etc., so the brothers could visualize what they wanted to paint. I especially liked this aspect because I could relate to what they were doing.
I find it much easier to paint using visuals. When I found out that the Hildebrandts used this method of art, it really encouraged me to keep doing what I was!
Surely Greg will miss Tim's contribution in future paintings he creates; but I am sure Tim's memory and his talent and techniques will continue to inspire and encourage Greg to continue painting.

He will be a missed artist for sure. The photos on the tribute page are great. I am amazed at how much alike Tim and Greg looked when they were little. The little superman drawings are cute, they kind of lead into the superman movie that will soon be coming out. The last photo of Greg and Tim is sad, I think it looks like Tim is putting on a fake smile.

Sad news indeed. I especially know their Tolkien-themed work, which I think is great. I didn't know though they had made artwork for Shannara or Star Wars. It was nice to see the tribute. He will be missed dearly!
