Ch 15: Of the Noldor in Beleriand
Turgon had discovered the valley of Tumladen with the aid of Ulmo. He remained in Nevrast, although after the Dagor Aglareb he started Gondolin’s construction in secrecy. When it was ready, he gathered his people to leave, and no one would remain. Before his departure, Turgon met Ulmo again. The Vala warned him that in the end the curse of the Noldor would find him as well. Therefore Turgon had to leave a sword and armour, which a future ally would find. And so Turgon did. He and his people lived for a long and happy time in the hidden realm The city thrived in honour of Tirion in the Undying Lands.
Galadriel, a princess of the Noldor, lived in Doriath. She often spoke with Melial of past ages, yet she never wanted to tell about what happened after the death of the Two Trees. Melial however guessed there was more, and that the Noldor hadn’t come as messengers of the Valar as they had told. Yet finally Galadriel told of the Silmarils as well, but remained silent of Fëanor’s oath or the Kinslaying. Melial warned her Husband Thingol, who still thought of the Noldor as great allies, even while he did not like them.
From that time, rumors spread. Yet some were twisted by Morgoth, and the Sindar felt concerned. It happened one time that the sons of Finarfin were visiting Thingol, when the Sindar King confronted them. In bitterness Angrod spoke to Thingol of the curse of Mandos, of the bloodshed, the burning of the ships and their journey through the Grinding Ice. Thingol responded that the Noldor should leave Doriath, yet he would remain friends with the sons of Finarfin and also with Fingolfin and his sons. Yet their tongue should never be spoken again in his realm. From then Quenya was only used among the lords of the Noldor and as a language of lore.
