What did you think of the "movie" Shadowfax? Was he just how Tolkien described him?
In FotR The Council of Elrond Gandalf describes him like this: 'And there is one among them that might have been foaled in the morning of the world. The horses of the Nine cannot vie with him; tireless, swift as the flowing wind. Shadowfax they called him. By day his coat glistens like silver; and by night it is like a shade, and he passes unseen. Light is his footfall! Never before had any man mounted him, but I took him and I tamed him, and so speedily he bore me that I reached the Shire when Frodo was on the Barrow-downs, though I set out from Rohan only when he set out from Hobbiton.'
Being a horse person I didn't like that fact that a white looking horse played Shadowfax. I think a more grey/silver horse should have. But the horses playing Shadowfax did play the spirit of Shadowfax very good!

I agree, Desi, a grey-silver horse would be more appropriate. Although I don't think they would ever be able to find a real horse that would look as majestic and awesome and ethereal as Shadowfax must have been.

Well, with all the special effect options available and used by PJ and his team, I am sure they could have made Shadowfax look silvery and/or shadowy depending on the time of day or night! They took so much time doing all the special effects on other things they let this slide!
I also thought that Shadowfax looked a bit skinny. He should have had a much fuller conformation in my opinion. In some scenes, his rib cage was very prominent.
I know sometimes it is difficult to find horse actors who can fill all aspects of the role they must play and why there are usually several horses doing different parts for the horse they are acting as.
However, a nice grey horse or two might have been a good choice instead of the white. (different shades of grey to depict the silver and the shadow)

They also could have used a special spray paint in the color of silver on the white horse to give it some shimmer!

now thats a great idea desi, but you sure don't want the horse to inhale the paint..... give him lung cancer why don't you!
